Many people are intimidated by making their own edibles at home, or they don’t realize how simple it is and how much money they could be saving.
It’s important for folks to find out how easy and affordable it is to make dispensary-grade edibles for just a tiny fraction of the price. In order to show everyone a fun and straightforward way to see the savings firsthand, we demonstrated how to make edibles that would have cost $40 at the store for only $3 using the Ardent FX at home.
Decarboxylation is the process of applying the right amount of heat and time to activate the tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) in cannabis. Decarbing is the first essential step for making edibles as you can’t experience any effects of cannabis (i.e. feel “high”) until your plant material has been activated.
The Ardent FX is an at-home, laboratory-grade device and makes your plant material (flower, kief or concentrate) super potent once you activate it. Because of this, we can use a gram of cannabis to create these special chocolates. (There is approximately 200 mg per gram in this strain. Check out our Dosing Guide for more information understanding the potency of your starting material.)
We’ll use a half gram for each set of three chocolates so that our infused treats are 30 mg THC each.
To get started, decarb your plant material in the Ardent FX, Ardent MINI, or Ardent Nova. On the Nova, use the single button interface and allow it to run for a full cycle. On the FX and MINI, use the A1 setting to activate material packed with THC or CBG. Use the A2 setting to activate material packed with CBD.
Once activation is complete, there are two easy ways to make our elevated treats:
TABLE OF CONTENTS
Instant Edibles
The Instant Edible Method is the definition of easy! After decarbing, this only requires 5 minutes of work from you because your Ardent device handles all the heavy lifting.
Remove the activated material, grind up the decarbed bud, and set aside.
Place chocolate in the container of choice (we utilized the Vessel), insert into your Ardent device, and put the top back on. To melt down the chocolate, select the Infuse setting if using the FX or MINI, and run the cycle for 15 minutes. If using the Nova, run another cycle for 15 minutes by pressing the single button interface.
Remove the melted chocolate and mix in the activated ground up material. (Ardent tip: The ground up flower folds in easily and helps masks the taste.)
Pack the medicated mixture into a mold of choice and place in the fridge to cool.
Remove chocolates from the mold and enjoy!
Since our starting material was a half gram of bud, each chocolate is 30 mg.
Easy Coconut Oil Infused Chocolates
This option only requires just one quick step after decarb!
Remove the activated material from your Ardent device and put the decarbed bud into a little bit of coconut oil, completely submerging the herb. (Feel free to use a tempered glass jar, Vessel, or Infusion Sleeve.)
Place the container back into your Ardent device and allow it to infuse by running another Nova cycle or pressing the Infuse setting on the FX or MINI. The infusion cycle will pull the THC right into the coconut oil.
Remove the infusion from the device and set aside.
Once melted, remove the melted chocolate from the device and use the Gen 2 Frainer to strain the infusion directly into the chocolate.
Pack the medicated mixture into a mold of choice and place in the fridge to cool.
Remove chocolates from the mold and enjoy!

Making cannabis or hemp-infused edibles from scratch can be fun and, with Ardent’s devices, the baking process has never been easier! But what about when you’re in a rush or you’re on the road?
Infuse store-bought foods instead!
Below are 5 examples of 7/11 snacks you can infuse and turn into edibles. All from the comfort of your own home.
What You Need to Get Started
The best part about 7/11 is that virtually any item inside the store can be infused, in one way or another, using Ardent technology.
With cannabis-infused oil, you can turn any food into an accurately-dosed medicated treat. Thanks to devices like the Ardent FX, it’s never been more enjoyable (and faster) to do so.
If you don’t feel like infusing, try the Instant Edible method by sprinkling decarbed bud directly over the food before consuming.
What is Infusion?
Infusion is the process of combining cannabinoids into fats to make them more bioavailable and consumable.
Before infusing, the first step is activating your cannabis or hemp using an Ardent device, a process called decarboxylation. Taking your Ardent device, place the plant material inside, close the lid, and run through a decarb cycle. Once the cycle is complete, your decarbed material is ready for infusion.
Next, remove the top and pour your infusion medium over the activated material. Follow this how-to guide, along with the how-to video, to see how it’s done.
Certain infused oils are ideal for different foods. For example, you may want a more neutral oil like grapeseed or walnut. Or, perhaps you’re craving the taste of infused olive oil or coconut oil for sweeter snacks. It’s entirely up to you!
Every stoner snack in this article can be made at home with the Ardent FX. This all-in-one, portable device is the ultimate canna-kitchen. You can decarb all parts of the plant (concentrate, kief, trim, and more) and bake directly in-unit. The FX is suitable for any space with an outlet, and can also be used as a regular kitchen appliance. Great for warming up your treats!
Dosing
In these recipes, it’s nearly impossible to get every single piece dosed in the same way.
Our advice, if you’re strict on dosage, is to half, third, or quarter this recipe into smaller batches to control the dose over your entire snacking portion. Check out this article to learn how to calculate your decarbed weed dosage and this article to find the right dose for you!

Place the baking dish in a safe area to dry.
Let the mixture air dry for 2 to 3 days – stir every few hours.

Store in an airtight container, such as the Ardent Vessel, for up to a year.

The Ardent Nova is the ‘OG’ decarboxylator that started it all. Since 2016, our iconic device has paved the way for an entirely new, exciting, and enjoyable edible cannabis experience. In the years that have passed, a lot has changed… thousands of worldwide fans who were first introduced to decarboxylation thanks to the Nova, and we now also offer the Ardent FX device. We wanted to share a brief history of our flagship decarboxylator. Keep reading to learn more about why this device is so special.
How it Works
The Ardent Nova is a device for decarboxylation.
If you aren’t familiar with the term, decarboxylation is the process of applying heat and time to cannabis in order to activate THC. All the info you could ever need on the process can be found right here.
Believe it or not, the ‘decarbing’ of weed is something that people have been doing for thousands of years. Without it, we’d be stuck with no other option than to smoke cannabis for its medicinal and recreational benefits. Thanks to decarboxylation, different methods of consumption are possible.
One of the most common questions we get about the Ardent Nova is, of course, what do I make with it?
And the answer isn’t so simple because the sky’s the limit when it comes to decarboxylation.
A good place to start is with the Ardent Nova Infusion Guide. After you understand how the decarb process works, you can get started with making Cannabis-Infused Oil. This will upgrade your herb-infused treats to a whole new level of taste and bioavailability for maximum enjoyment!
If you’re ready to start infusing with the Ardent Nova, check out this sleeve to make the process as smooth as possible. If you’re a fan of cannabutter – this how-to guide shows you step-by-step about how it’s done with the Nova.
Featured in Forbes, VICELAND, Thrillist, and More
The Nova has received a great deal of publicity and love from the media!
For example, Forbes ran a profile on Ardent CEO & Founder, Shanel Lindsay. The feature details her journey from attorney to CEO starting with the invention of the Nova.
Thrillist did a similar piece on the story behind how Ardent (and the Nova) first came to be. In fact, this article led to the Nova being awarded Thrillist’s “The Get: Expert Picks” badge.
Gear Patrol offers a quick and easy endorsement for the Nova in this article, where they also explain why decarboxylation is so important for cannabis consumption.
Most notably, the Ardent Nova was tested out by the one and only 2 Chainz! Joined by Ardent CEO & Founder, Shanel Lindsay, the rapper learned all about the Ardent Nova on his VICELAND show and witnessed firsthand how it works. His reaction says it all! The entertaining video is not one to miss – you can see it, along with a demonstration of the Nova, right here.

“I Love my Ardent!!! It is wonderful to be able to decarb without any smell! I do go outside to open it once cooled, but it is great if you have close neighbors or a spouse/roommate that doesn’t like the smell. Small, easy to clean, the perfect kitchen aid for anyone making edibles. I think the end product is much stronger so I use less when making cookies. Great investment.”
-Janet S.

“I love my NOVA. It allows me to control what’s going into my infusions with MUCH more accuracy and efficiency than I was getting from previous old-school decarb methods. And last but not least, amazing customer support!”

People have been making cannabis edibles for centuries now. Until recently, it’s been a tricky game – making THC-infused treats that taste good but still deliver an accurate dosage is traditionally difficult…
But thanks to devices like the Ardent Nova? Making great edibles has never been easier.
One of the most common questions we hear about decarboxylation is “what do I make with it? Where do I start?” Getting started with your new device can be daunting, and the web is littered with countless edible recipes… some good and some bad. So, we’ve put together a collection of 5 easy recipes anyone can follow to make incredible THC-infused treats with our flagship decarboxylation device.
First, let’s look at a new and improved version of the classic ‘Cannabutter’.
Cannabutter is one of the most popular bases for cannabis edibles.
This is for many reasons, but the main one is versatility. THC-infused butter is an ingredient you can use in a multitude of delicious (and even nutritious) recipes.
Plus, you can make cannabutter in huge batches that last for months while still staying fresh. This means you don’t have to go to the trouble of making new edibles or recipes every time you want to indulge.
Believe it or not, ancient Indians made cannabutter centuries ago. It remains as one of the best ways to enjoy cannabis for recreational and medicinal use… and with the Ardent Nova decarboxylator?
Making cannabutter has never been this easy.
Click here to get the ultimate cannabutter recipe!
Generally, even the most ‘seasoned’ THC edible enthusiasts shy away from gummies.
Why?
Because it is incredibly difficult. The variables, like temperatures and equipment and dosing, make THC-infused gummies a tough recipe for most… but not for anyone equipped with the Ardent Nova.
With our OG decarboxylator and infusion device, cannabis gummies have never been easier to make. You can consistently churn out accurately-dosed gummies that taste great and deliver a healthy serving of THC for maximum enjoyment.
If gummies are still too much work for you, this article also has two other recipes – ‘Infused S’mores’ and ‘Grilled Peanut Bud & Jelly’. Making both of these recipes are simple-as-can-be with the Ardent Nova – click here to check it out.
Brownies are by far the most popular cannabis edible snack of all time. The reason being, anyone can make them from the comfort of their own home with just an oven and a little bit of patience.
But like everything when it comes to cannabis cooking, things can (and do) go wrong. Dosing can be difficult – we’ve all heard stories about people eating infused brownies only to be stuck going on a ‘voyage’ for hours that they didn’t anticipate. These horror stories are enough to scare even the most experienced cannabis enthusiasts away from edibles forever.
However, these mistakes don’t happen with the Ardent Nova.
As you’ll see in this recipe article, cannabis-infused brownies are still king. Not only are they incredibly rich and delicious, but with our flagship device they are very easy to make.
We also share some variations of recipes for people with dietary or space restrictions. Click here to check it out.
Contrary to popular belief, making cannabis honey is not the same process as making cannabutter. Our research found that the ‘traditional’ way of making THC-infused honey is not ideal for accurate dosing or extracting the most from your plant material.
We tested various ways of making cannabis-infused honey to determine which method produced the most potent end product. And yes, we did find the best method and show you how it’s done in this article.
Also, we share how to make cannabis honey with more than just flower. You can also make it with kief, concentrate, cannaoil, and FECO, too. Each offers a different end product but all are equally easy to make with the Ardent Nova. Click here to see how it’s done.
Everyone likes chips. Whether it’s for yourself or a group of people, store bought chips are an easy party favorite and guaranteed to please everyone. Now, thanks to decarboxylation, you can turn your average store bought pack of chips into a the ultimate stoner snack with ease!
Using devices like the Ardent Nova, you can decarb flower, concentrate, kief, trim, and more to make infused oil. Douse your chips with the infused oil!
This works with Doritos, Cheez-its, Chex Mix, and more – the opportunities are endless. Click here to see them all.
More Recipes
All five of these edible recipes are a perfect place to start with your Ardent Nova.
However, we’re only just getting started. With decarboxylation, the sky is really the limit when it comes to THC-infused edibles.
Some of our other favorites for baking with the Ardent Nova include:
April is Earth Month, a perfect time to talk about reducing our carbon footprint.
Beyond recycling and carpooling, did you know there are ways to conserve when it comes to cannabis?
Thanks to the Ardent Nova and Ardent FX decarboxylator devices, eliminating waste and getting the most out of your cannabis is easy. The devices allow you to create infusions for making edibles, topicals, and beyond, and after the straining process, the leftover plant material from your infusion, aka raffinate, can be used too!We offer solutions to using every last bit like transforming it into pesto, infused capsules, and even an exfoliating hand and body scrub.
This not only stretches the amount of cannabis you use… but our devices allow you to use every part of the plant! Leftover stems, sugar leaf, trim, kief, concentrate, flower, popcorn nugs, etc. Nothing goes to waste and everything gets used – for our benefit and the planet’s!
Read below to find out how to make infused cannabutter and cannaoil alternatives, how to use the oils and raffinate (that would otherwise get thrown out!), and how to repurpose your infused oils and butters and give them an “infusion boost” with Ardent technology.
How to Make Cannabis-Infused Butter
Cannabutter is one of the most popular bases for weed edibles.
Just like regular butter, you can use this cannabis-infused butter to bake treats like brownies and cakes. You can also infuse chocolate or simply spread it on toast, among countless other options based on your preferences.
Repurpose Leftover Stems, Sugar Leaf, Trim, Kief, and More
You don’t have to only use cannabis flower for infusions, you can repurpose the ‘less desirable’ parts of the plant like leftover stems, sugar leaf, and more. These often get thrown out and we think that’s a travesty. Ardent’s decarboxylators and infusers allow you to get the most from every part of your cannabis. Click here to see how it’s done.
How to Reuse Your Oil or Butter
To cut down on waste and materials, try infusion boosting. This is the process of re-infusing oil with additional decarbed cannabis to make it more potent. Lab tested, this method is great for saving money and time. It also allows you to cut down on the extraction, like butter or oil, to minimize your carbon footprint.
Raffinate is the leftover cannabis material strained from your infusion. The “plant pulp” has already been activated to make infusions.
To explain this further, there’s two terms you need to know – extract and raffinate.
Extract is the oil, butter, or whatever else that contains the THC, CBD, or CBG you extracted from the flower.
And raffinate, what some people call cannabis ‘pulp’, is the starting material. When it comes to cannabis, it is the leftover flower strained out after the infusion process.
Many people throw this leftover material out. In the spirit of Earth Day, we’re happy to tell you the raffinate still has active cannabinoids. So don’t throw that stuff out!
To prove this point, we put it to the test. We checked how much of the cannabinoids was left in the raffinate, or ‘pulp’, after extraction – as shown in this article. It turns out extraction removes roughly 95% of the cannabinoids from the decarbed cannabis flower, so a small percentage of active THC, CBD, and more is still present.
Plus, the raffinate can soak up the oil or solvent used to extract during the infusion process. Use it for edibles and other DIY recipes!
To help you on your way, here’s some fun things you can do with the leftover material:
1. Reclaim the remaining oil.
After infusing, you can do it again to get the last bit of oil from the raffinate.
Pour boiling water over the leftover pulp. Let the butter/oil and water separate and, when it’s cool, the remaining butter/oil will rise for collection.
2. Store the raffinate
Not ready to use the leftover material right away?
No problem – you can store it by refrigeration and/or freezing. Make sure to keep it in an airtight container, like the Ardent Vessel, or sealed Ziplock so it doesn’t get damaged.
3. Make edibles
It can be tricky to get the dosing right. So, start small until you’ve figured out the potency.
Some edibles you can make:
Cannabis capsules: A super easy method to get the most from your decarbed-material. Fill capsules with the leftover pulp and enjoy!
Cannabis coffee: Another easy recipe. Simply steep the leftover cannabis pulp in your coffee by using a tea ball! A great way to start your day. Add sugar, cream, milk, or whatever else to enhance the taste.
Cannabis smoothie: Start with a tablespoon of raffinate and add it into a smoothie of your choice – keep experimenting to judge potency.
You can find more recipes for easy edibles here, many that can be used with raffinate. pulp.
Remember, decarbed cannabis is already activated. You could eat it as is, if you wanted to, and still get its effects. This means you can incorporate the raffinate into any recipe as you wish, from the ones we listed to brownies, cookies, dressings, salads, sauces, soups, guacamole… the sky’s the limit!
Just take care to start with smaller doses and work your way up to evaluate potency.
Before launching Ardent, Shanel Lindsay was a medical cannabis patient suffering from chronic pain and inflammation caused by an ovarian cyst she developed after having her son. She soon discovered that using cannabis as an accurate medicine was almost impossible.
Determined and motivated to find a solution, Shanel worked with scientists at MCR Labs and created the Ardent Nova Precision Decarboxylator, which regulates medical cannabis dosing and also doubles as an infuser. She has grown a global brand in Ardent Life Inc. and has received multiple patents for her inventions.
After 7 years, the Ardent Nova is running its final cycle and retiring on 4/20. The flagship decarboxylator and infuser completely changed the at-home edibles game (and beyond) for both consumers and patients.
Read Shanel’s personal message below to the beloved Ardent Nova.
Ardent Founder & CEO’s Farewell, Love Note to the Nova
Hey Girl,
It’s time to say goodbye. As I’m writing, there’s a tear in my eye and a smile on my face. We’ve been through so much in these last 7 years. How could I ever thank you? As we get ready to say farewell. let’s take a trip down memory lane together:
Before you, I was a bright aspiring lawyer but there was something missing. Cannabis was a main feature in my life, but people around me were struggling with it.
Massachusetts had medical marijuana but no dispensaries. People were excited but really confused. They were wasting weed and some people were turning away from it, because it seemed to be not working.
But I saw there was a way. We got nerdy and deep into the science at MCR Labs. And then I made YOU 💜 Ardent’s pride and joy. The name ardent means passionate. Your passion for the plant and making things easier for anyone. You’re the embodiment of that passion.
Amazing ideas don’t just come to life and this was no exception. Girl, you were HARD to deal with!
I had to pull together an international team to produce all the individual complements needed. It was a very depressing first day when all the pieces arrived but things still wouldn’t quite work, and it seemed impossible to fake a smile that day. Looking back now, drama always comes up but there’s still so much joy in it, and it’s a reminder to find happiness through the bad times. I need that reminder constantly in business. The only way to the other side is through. In hindsight, it was one of the best times of my life. That’s a lesson I’ll keep close as I face new challenges in my future.
Because of you, I learned how to solder (not very well, and with a lot of burnt fingers), become an expert in manufacturing, and put all my legal training to work in order to figure out this complicated new world of cannabis business.
You’ve always been a grassroots effort – with the focus on science. What if we tell them they can use an ⅛ to make hundreds of dollars of edibles? If we told them you can just decarb and then eat the bud? If you could stretch any stash and make it into any product you could think of on a dispensary shelf, what would they do?
We spend the next 7 years finding out and the Ardentverse that has formed around this movement is so inspiring and heartwarming. Then we started to tell the world.
It’s been a whirlwind and you were at the center of it all. When I think back, it’s been about so much more than just our journey. You were right there as we were leading the push for legalization and equity in Massachusetts. Creating you gave me a voice, as a business owner and leader. Because of you, I had a unique position and insight to how this industry was moving, and it wasn’t in the right direction. We fought to change that and we won!
I had to balance watching you grow up. You’re like my child but you’ve also helped me be a better mom to my actual child. It was really awesome to be able to provide an example to him of how to chase his dreams, thoughts do become things, and it’s okay to pour your passion into the world – even if you’re fearful of how it’s all going to turn out. On top of all that, you’re paying for Jaden’s college. Thanks because it’s expensive!
Patent much? You’ve stretched and pushed me into new areas. Who would have thought that we’d have FOUR utility patents for YOU. “You is new, you is novel, you is protected.” As much as I’ve wanted to grow as a person and as a professional, you’ve pushed me there. Taking you from idea, to patent and to product put me to the test. You showed me how to have confidence and vision even (or especially) when the path was not clear. I had to trust my heart and instinct in following this passion.
Although we are still small and homegrown, the world is starting to notice. Have you seen all the media attention you’ve gotten over these last years from the press? Oh, and remember when Most Expensivest with 2 Chainz called and asked you to show up and show out? That was a blast, you did so good and looked fly as hell too.
On top of that, you’ve been the best example for your little big sister, FX. You showed the world that you could decarb, infuse and also bake inside. Our first kits were just for you. You are truly our OG 💜💯
You proved time and time again that you really are for EVERYONE. All of the incredible people and communities we have encountered in the last years are all because of you. That journey made your uniqueness abundantly clear. You’re on the counters of the headiest, stoniest members of our community and at the very same time, you’re a gentle guide and friend to even the most novice user. That’s what I’m most proud of. You honor traditional cannabis culture, our culture, but you’re kind, inviting, and comforting to those just wading into the sea of green. From cannacurious to cannascientist, you’re perfect for them all. Patients included.
You’ve led me to an abundance of people in my life including the amazing wide and diverse cannabis community and of course, the Ardent team. Without them, none of this would be possible.
Everyone is wondering what’s next? You’ve helped people all over the world – we spread the message far and wide, and now it’s time for you to retire.
There’s never an end to the support we’ll give to those lucky enough to have you. As you know, there were only so many of you made and that means you’ve officially become a collector’s item! As Ardent continues to blossom, we’ll always look back on you as the one that started it all. Congrats baby girl, I always knew I could count on you!

Holi is a celebration marking the end of a long winter, and the start of a bright, beautiful spring season. It’s celebrated by tossing around powdered paint and colored water, mending relationships with loved ones, and dissolving any lingering resentment.
Celebrate Holi, the Hindu festival of colors and love, with a cookie recipe hand-crafted by Ardent community member, Peter Cardoz. Peter’s Indian spiced cardamom cookie recipe uses infused ghee made directly inside the Ardent Nova or Ardent FX.
Peter’s recipe uses ghee, or clarified butter, which is used in cooking and baking throughout India. In ancient times, Indians realized the importance of pairing cannabinoids (usually referred to as bhang,) with a fat like ghee to increase bioavailability.
Our independent third-party lab test results show us that ghee has an infusion rate of around 90% when infused inside the Ardent Nova or FX. This means that with just 1 gram of hemp at 20% CBDa, after decarb you’ll have 174 active mgs, then when infused into the ghee at a ~90% infusion rate, you’ll have 156.6 mgs in your final infusion.
To make hemp infused ghee inside the Nova, simply decarb your herb in-unit by placing it inside and pressing the single-button interface. When the cycle is over, allow the device to cool off for about 30 minutes, then run another cycle with the same herb inside. When it’s time to infuse, pour ghee into the Concentrate and Infusion Sleeve or Vessel along with the decarbed herb and place it inside the Nova, and start another cycle. Strain once it’s complete using the Ardent Frainer.
To make hemp infused ghee inside the FX, simply decarb your herb in-unit by placing it inside and pressing the power button to start the A2 cycle. Switch between modes using the M button. When the cycle is over, add ghee to the Concentrate and Infusion Sleeve or Vessel, along with the decarbed herb, and start an Infuse cycle. Strain once it’s complete using the Ardent Frainer or Infusion Press.
Ardent Community Member, Roger Sterling aka the Ganja Guru, is a Black farmer, cannabis activist, and influencer. Likes and follows aside, Roger’s priorities stand at the intersection of social justice and educating those about the powerful plant.
Roger is bi-coastal and splits his time living in California and traveling home to his family’s farm in Alabama. The Ganja Guru’s experience as a farmer drives his knowledge and point of view, while his experience as a performer helps elevate the content he creates.
We spoke with Roger to learn more about his story, the history of his family’s farm, what the plant means to him, and more!
1. Ganja Guru, tell us about yourself. What’s your story?
Thanks for asking. I was born in Alabama, raised in Tennessee. So that’s where the story starts, kind of because my background goes back to just being raised in Alabama on the farm. I think that trickles down to where we are today and is the best place to start. It’s just being on the farm. My dad was raised on the farm, and that’s where I got a lot of my upbringing. I didn’t appreciate it or like it at the time. I left Alabama and came to LA on this entertainment journey which was cool, but had my ups and downs in Hollywood. I’ve done fun stuff, but also it’s hard having a family that’s 2,000 miles away.
When the 2018 Farm Bill passed and with social equity in mind, we realized all this farmland could be used in a resourceful way. I somewhat hung up the acting and modeling, and started traveling back and forth every month to the farm to see how we could really make the hemp farm grow.
That is where the start of these things happen. Even just getting educated on this being a possibility for life in Alabama – most people don’t know you can be in the cannabis or hemp business in Alabama. I got that preview of information from being in California and being that guy on the Hollywood set. I was always on my break, having a little smoke, having a little edible, or being that guy that was always not ashamed to consume. So that was kind of part of the journey that switched me over to cannabis. And in that time, when I’m traveling back and forth, I’ll have my little pre-rolls or my edibles that I’ll bring back with me and want to educate my family on the benefits of cannabinoid therapy. Just because in the south, you have this negative idea of what consumption is. I moved to LA 12 years ago as an actor, model, and host, and then got the opportunity to transition into a farmer based on the progression of cannabis studies and legalization.
I’m a person that is going to do all I can to share my knowledge about cannabis and work with communities that have been disenfranchised or miseducated on those things. Whether it be the consumption of hemp, such as CBD, CBN or CBD, and other crucial cannabinoids, or about the other 50,000 things that you can do with the hemp plant. I’m aiming to educate people and show them a different way of life.
2. We’d love to hear more about your family farm in Alabama and growing hemp.
Yeah, absolutely. It’s actually a really cool story about my granddad and his brother, Uncle Joe. He’s the infamous farmer in the area and my granddad, who was a pastor, a Barber, a bus driver, and also worked on the railroad track in the area. He was a go to in the community. They went together and bought land during my dad’s early childhood. My dad was born into being part of the community, not knowing that it would be where we cultivate hemp today, which is what we call Culture Valley Farms.
The first time that I remember in history how it clicked is my dad telling me the story of him being a teenager and his dad being out in the yard working with him. This couple pulled up, who were the loaners they borrowed from for their land, and said they hadn’t been making payments on the farm. My granddad told my dad to go inside and get a shoe box from underneath the bed. Having something as simple as a box full of receipts, that might just be a brown paper bag torn up and marked “$0.10 paid today” with the date, or “dollar paid on April 11”. Not a printed receipt, but a brown paper bag with a date and the paid amount.
This is what got my dad to be able to invest in the land and see how the powers that be can sometimes not necessarily be working for you, but working against you. I think that in itself builds this sort of pride in him to not ever have to fight for that land again. He’s always been working and has been an agriculturalist since I was born. Horses, cows, chickens, pigs, goats. He raises them and he’s like an animal whisperer.
He’s also a Butcher. We do all of our own meats, vegetables, and all of those types of things on a small scale. I’ve seen that my dad is an actual renaissance man, and he’s still the guy that has no cell phone, no email address, no laptop. I love that. He’s still very much detached from the progression that we say we have to conform to, and just really appreciates the simple things in life.
My mom recently retired from 50 years with the federal government and is the complete opposite of my dad. She traveled everywhere and worked with these super confidential agencies, doing things on the computer every day. My dad won’t even fly! My mom’s been around the world. My dad has never been on a plane. Maybe one time, I think, but he’s like, “If God wanted me to fly, he would have given me wings”.
The farm came from that. My dad and mom made sacrifices to ensure that their children get something to have, whether they want to live on it, work off of it, whatever we want to do. They are really supportive. I’m grateful for that and having that process of growing up on the farm. It was really awesome when the 2018 Farm Bill passed and stated that anybody who did agriculture can now also grow hemp as the plant is looked at under the agricultural umbrella. My dad’s appreciation for agriculture and my appreciation for cannabis now merge.
We have this opportunity that gives us the ability to have a really beautiful relationship. I realized that I would inevitably need to learn how to be an agriculturalist, and he learns things just about me. Most of the time, parents and kids don’t get that opportunity to just be visual and present with each other. You go to high school, then you graduate and you go to college, then you’re in your adult life, and only sometimes they have their influence.
Getting to actually do business together is really cool. I think it’s the thing that we as a culture lack, and it influenced the name of Culture Valley Farms. I could have easily been just a family farm name but it was really important to do something that was visible for the culture, and for the people that didn’t feel like they had a representation.
I’ve considered the culture and anyone who is part of the progression, positivity, diversity, and inclusion, to be part of that family that can learn the seed-to-store part of hemp. That’s what I think is the biggest takeaway of what we’re doing in Alabama and what we have the potential to do in LA.
3. Who or what inspired you to get into the cannabis industry?
I think that has to go back to, of course, the default question of your first consumption. It’s ironic that my first consumption was with someone who then went on to become a police officer. It was during my senior year of high school when I first consume with my cousin Chris. He went on to become a correctional officer, and I went on to college. When I went to college, I saw all these professionals that consumed on a daily basis, and they weren’t what society had taught you about what a cannabis consumer or weed smoker was. They were people who were kind, they were thoughtful, and they were productive. I realized that you can actually use cannabis in a way that’s positive and not just what movie stereotypes have shown us.
It’s a community of people that have inspired me to get into the cannabis industry. After I found cannabis to be helpful in my walk of life, it was the same community that showed me that there was an industry. Just like my cousin Chris showed me in high school and how I was shown in college about being productive cannabis consumers. I had people like Green Bee Life show me that there was an industry and that there was media behind it. My first cannabis event also inspired me, which was a Sushi and Doobies gathering with the High Dining Club and Barbie Sommars.
The community of education would be the biggest thing that influenced me to get into the cannabis industry. Also, shout out to my other cannabis influencers! They’re all super dope and seeing other people make creative videos that are educational and informative made me want to be about it and not just sitting on the couch talking about it. So keep producing your videos, going to the events, and speaking your mind!
4. Which Black owned-business should the Ardent community know about?
That’s probably one of my biggest traits that we’re progressing, like cannabis legalization and sharing about how to patronize companies that we know about. I’m that one that is always looking for Black-owned brands. Ancillary or plant touching.
That’s how I came across Ardent! It was from asking people about the best Black-owned brands. When it comes to even just the Ardent in itself, it’s a piece of history. The Ardent FX is amazing piece of Black history. Ardent’s Founder, Shanel Lindsay, is a Black woman who created a product that made the world a better place.
I’m excited to be lined up with a Black-owned brand like Ardent. I always use Black Star Flower in my Ardent device, which is also a Black-owned brand. Or, I use Ball Family Farms, which is one of those flower brands that has a nostalgic piece with an appreciation for entertainment. All of their cannabis strains are based on movie titles or like something that was nostalgic from a time. Viola, of course I love the flower from them. I have some friends that work there and they are always good people.
I used to make a joke because I live in South Los Angeles in Baldwin Hills and I used to just have like 24-hour Popeyes within a mile either way of my house. But now I have a few Black woman-owned dispensaries. We have Gorilla Rx (shout out to the Kikas!), and Josephine & Billie’s by Ebony Andersen and Whitney Beatty are also close to my home. Also, the Sixty Four & Hope is doing a great job over there. It’s amazing to see progressions of Black-owned businesses and have Black products to patronize in spaces like this and beyond.
So I applaud the way that our cannabis is being used and those that are taking that risk. My friend Jae from Zyn Wellness released a hemp product line that is amazing. Chef Maverick in downtown LA is an amazing cannabis chef who uses the Ardent device all the time. I can go on for days and days. Nadir Pearson is the co-founder of Hybrid. Imagine a Black man on the East Coast having a box like this that I can get on the West Coast with cannabis products that are just like the latest.
I love getting the latest cannabis products. The things that are pioneering and aren’t necessarily getting a flashlight, but are amazing. It’s people that are almost their local neighborhood heroes. I’m having a great time going into those neighborhoods and finding the heroes, giving them the spotlight and acknowledging what they’re doing. As I look over, I see more Black-owned items, including Coffee and Kush.
The Cannabis Cutie covers cannabis in a way that’s educational such as if you want to learn more about how it can impact your body. It’s like my Red Bull, seeing people get re-educated in a way that’s impactful, based on productivity and a positive outcome. It just makes me feel great. So when I see those people, I’ll wear a t-shirt. I have a hat right here that’s another Black-owned brand. It’s just based on education and love, and it comes from here. That’s my favorite. As long as people don’t mess it up, I’m literally here for everybody. Not even just Back people in the space, but people that are here for the justification of the planet’s journey.
Left to right: Ardent’s Shanel Lindsay, Chef Maverick, Jae of Zyn Wellness, and Ganja Guru.
5. Who is your favorite Black-owned non-profit/organization?
Cannaclusive is the first one that comes to mind! Cannaclusive has done a really incredible job with accountability and holding people to the flame. When I find out about those supporting the community, it feels like you’re finding your tribe, and it makes me feel amazing. From NORML (National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws) to Minorities for Medical Marijuana and all that they’re doing for social equity, there are so many nonprofits constantly pulling up and doing the work.
We all have an actual responsibility to ensure that people that have been harmed, oppressed, and patronized by this plant are now lifted up. It’s important that they have the proper tools, the proper resources, the proper education, and the proper attention. To anyone fighting for those things, that’s who I’m outlining.
6. What does the plant mean to you?
Simply I could say now it means everything just based on the seed of knowledge that I know that it can not only be for myself, but also just for society in the country and culture in the world. If people are open to it, it has the power to change the way that we know, the way that we have a relationship with each other, the way that we have a relationship with even just our home. I have a friend who just lost their home to a house fire this past week. If we normalize being able to use hempcrete for housing structures, or using hemp for clothing, just like being able to grow and have it be transformed into textiles and using those as commodities that aren’t necessarily fought for, but they’re always there because everyone can grow their own garden. So if you can grow your own garden, why not learn how to grow your own hemp? Your own hemp can teach you how to grow your own 50,000 different businesses if you really, really want to.
So to me, when I say everything, it means liberation as a Black person in this space and in America today. To me, hemp is reparation in the form of liberation. It’s a plan that can put you in a place where you need to be every day. I have people asking me how to get into the cannabis industry, including people in California as well as Wyoming, Utah, and Alabama. The best thing that I can tell them is getting where you can. Even if you’re in one of those places that legalization hasn’t happened yet. Fortunately, we had this Farm Bill that allowed hemp to be produced everywhere. You can start with a pot of hemp and grow your own CBD that first year. Then you can get to a place where you have a lot and you’re growing something that can be made into CBD products, or you can phase up into levels of where you start out with just one seed in one pot. Then you grow your production to where you might be releasing or renting a farm from somebody who doesn’t have the knowledge.
But you now have the knowledge because you planted that first seed, and they might just have everything you need and you might have everything they need. That’s what I found, that the community is there for you. I’ve seen this throughout the process over the last three years. Things that I thought were impossible have happened without much effort at all and that’s based on the community there in the area, but also just based on taking risks.
We were told the plant was a drug. It was programs and initiatives. It was a war against drugs. This amazing plant was considered in that war of drugs. We should be educated that in addition to our bodies having a nuclear system, a skeletal system, and a muscular system, we also have the endocannabinoid system. They should be teaching us about that. Teach us about how the endocannabinoid system sees those cannabinoids, just like the ones that they make in their own bodies. Our own bodies make cannabinoids, just like this plant does!
It’s actually part of us. When people know that they can stop looking at their cousin that might not have just had it together at that moment or somebody who just might smoke and got caught in the wrong place at the wrong time, they might start looking at them with a little bit more humanity and realize that this is part of all of us. If we look at it as such, we can move the same way and change the world.
How amazing is it that you can put a plant in the ground and dirt and it cleans the air? As you do both things simultaneously, you can then get that plant out and take those grown nugs and extract it. You can make something to help manage your pain or you can smoke it, and it’ll bring you a sense of relief as well. But not just those buds. You can use that stock and take what’s inside that stock to make it into items that you can use.
If everybody leverages this, just like my family is doing, we can build a society that’s not dependent on the things that we’ve been relying on. So I’ll say the plant is everything to me.
7. What is your favorite infused recipe/product to make using the Ardent FX?
Oh my gosh, I’m long-winded already – the list of things I do with my Ardent device is crazy! I just went and talked to another cannabis friend on her podcast this past week, and I had gotten some of the Tempo infused crackers in one of these gift boxes. I wanted to have something with that and made an infused olive tapenade with my FX the other day, and it was so good. Although I messed up and I forgot to check my olives because they had seeds in there! Fortunately, the blender’s blade was really good. Luckily, when we were on the podcast, my friend didn’t get any seeds. I got a little piece of seed, but it was incredibly tasty. I infused my butter and also used some fresh herbs.
I think the first edible that really just knocked my socks off was when Robert, who actually owns Tempo, and I made a pickled infusion. We didn’t use pickles, that was just next level! I knew that you could make your own butter but this blew my mind.
I love traveling with my Ardent and how you can decarb, infuse and bake right inside. The way you can use your infusions and turn it into anything, like when Sarah (Ardent’s Content Manager) made the edible candle – this also blew my mind. I already have some butter handy so just being able to reshape it, put that candle wick in there, and pair with some crackers or bread then let the butter melt. It’s a game-changer and so cool. It’s a conversation piece.
That’s all I do now! Instead of being the guy that would always take a bottle of wine or a bottle of liquor to a gathering, I can use a stick of butter and really blow these people’s minds. I keep infused garlic butter, infused olive oil, and the pickled infusion in the fridge at all times.
I also have decarbed flower and fresh flower on the counter at all times, to use for my smoothies or for garnishes. I remember when my friend first got her Ardent device and she made infused butter. I was on FaceTime with her because she was so excited and as she was about to throw out the raffinate, I yelled out, “No, don’t throw that away!” That’s not waste, she had gold right there. She put it in a Ziploc bag and ended up using it. You’re able to use every part of the plant at every single stage. Just so amazing.
8. Why do you love Ardent?
I admire Shanel Lindsay and I’m super excited to be part of the Ardent community. I’m grateful that Ardent has welcomed me with open arms based on being this super excited cannabinoid guy. Aside from the device, I love Ardent because of the community it represents and the community it builds. We all talk about it all the time! I love supporting Black-owned businesses to the end, but this is also a company that supports everybody. It supports anybody that’s supporting cannabis. It’s not just for device owners because even if you don’t have one yet, you can go on the Ardent website and use the range of resources and recipes.
The feeling that I get from meeting the Ardent team in person at MJBizCon and knowing Nadir (co-founder of Hybrid), who has been one of my longest cannabis industry friends, and how he started out with Ardent in the beginning is really cool. Nothing is accidental. Being part of the Ardent community feels organic.
You can educate with Ardent and be about action with it. You can show your love with it. There’s so many different kinds of versions of a love language to use your Ardent for. You can easily be a business person. Get someone an Ardent, or you can just give them a stick of butter, or you can make their favorite cookies, or you can have a dinner that’s super romantic with an Ardent candle. There’s so many ways that it can be part of your life. I’ve just been super grateful for that.
Ardent isn’t necessarily looking for those who have the most followers or who’s doing the biggest thing or who has the loudest voice. They partner with real people that appreciate the plant and Ardent values us in a real way. Thank you guys for taking the time to even speak to me. I’m excited about where the future is going for Ardent, for us, and for the community we’re developing. I would just say that this is an authentic place. I’m grateful for Ardent being an authentic community that can just connect over things like this.

Most couples choose to make their weddings a reflection of themselves. They find special moments and activations for guests that include their favorite colors, music, foods, and liquor, which is why many cannabis consumers are now choosing to include weed consumption within their wedding experience, as well.
Weed weddings have become extremely popular as more states choose to legalize adult-use consumption. 420-friendly weddings also give attendees who don’t drink an option to participate in the celebration without being totally sober.
Include cannabis or hemp leaves and buds in your floral arrangements on tables, letting the attendees bring the dried nugs home, and in your bridal bouquets. Add leaves to the bride’s flower crown and to the groom’s boutonnieres for herb-accented versions.

1. Remove the FX Unit, and power base from the purple carrying case. Plug the base into an outlet. Please note that the power base can short circuit if wet and should be used on a dry surface.
2. Place the FX unit onto the base charger – note the power light will show as green with one of the four setting options lit as yellow (A1 setting is ON in the below image.)
3. Click the “M” Mode Button to cycle through the four settings and choose your desired heat level:
a. A1 = Activate THC; cycle optimized to activate THC from THCA – Also activates CBGA to CBG
b. A2 = Activate CBD; cycle optimized to activate CBD from CBDA
c. Infuse; Use this setting to infuse your activated material into oil, butter and more; this cycle runs at a lower temperature
d. Bake; The highest temperature setting, use this setting to bake treats, souvee meat, cook pasta and more! The possibilities are endless and we will continue showing extended uses on our website at: https://ardentcannabis.com/education/
4. Open the top of the FX, place your material in and reattach the top completely.
a) If decarbing flower, only insert as much product as fits comfortably in the unit – do not try to jam more in, as it will negatively impact the flower’s trichomes and may cause the unit to fail.
b) Oil for infusion can be placed right inside the stainless steel inner cavity.
5. Click the Power button to start the cycle. The button color should change from green to red indicating that the cycle is in progress.
Note: at the end of the A1 and A2 cycles, the Power button will flash red, indicating the cool-down has started. Please wait until the cool-down stops completely to open the FX
6. After A1 or A2 activation cycles, choose your oil or butter preference and add it to your activated material inside your FX (only up to the Max Fill symbol). Use the M button to toggle to Infuse mode and click the Power button to start the low-temp infusion. See the Infusion Cycle section for more details including higher temperature infusions. (Picture of Fill Line)
7. After the infusion cycle, store your infused oil or add it to your favorite baking recipe and bake in your FX. Repeat steps 3 & 4 to run the Bake cycle. Please see the Bake Cycle section for more details.
8. Once finished with use, hand wash the FX unit or place it in the dishwasher, making sure the detachable power base does not get wet. Let the device dry completely before placing it on the base to use. Learn more about Dosing to zx achieve just the right dose for you or anyone else you make products for.

Decarboxylation: A1(THC) and A2(CBD)
Both of these proprietary decarboxylation cycles have been tried and tested for full THC/CBG and CBD activation from your starting plant material. If looking for an activated end product (rather than THCA, CBGA, or CBDA; the acidic form) you need to decarboxylate before the material can be infused. For More information, including an overview of what decarboxylation is and why it matters, check out the following resources:
This entire cycle will run for close to three hours (that much time is not needed for infusion but some people like a longer infusion time, and there are other uses for this cycle that can benefit from the longer time period). This cycle peaks at 176 degrees F (or 80 degrees C). Important Note: Ardent’s tests have shown that whether the infusion runs for a one hour or a 2 hour cycle, the potency is the same. This means that infusion times can ultimately be left up to a consumer’s preference or the material requirements but should be a minimum of 45 minutes and a maximum of one complete cycle.
As owners of the original Nova may know, the THC activation cycle can also be used as an infusion cycle, especially when infusing concentrates or kief, which only need to be heated and mixed for infusion since there is no straining. When it comes to concentrates and kief, it is more about allowing the concentrate and oil to blend well. This higher temperature cycle is perfect for making sure the concentrates melt appropriately into the oil and can still be run for as little as 30 minutes.
The FX’s Infusion setting is perfect for lower temperature infusion materials. Test out some different infusion materials and times and let us know your preference!
Our newest cycle setting with fun and tasty potential! This setting naturally runs at our highest temperature – peaking at over 300℉ for a little over two hours (if left uninterrupted). We’ve found success with traditional baking recipes like cakes and cooking pasta but would love to see what you can do with your FX! Join us on the journey to discover all the wonderful and unique ways the Baking setting can enhance your daily life and empower you to create and cook even without access to a kitchen.
For those who have been a fan of Ardent for a long time probably remember that our first unit, Nova, originally was just a decarboxylator for THC. Since then, we have shown our audience how to decarb CBD, infuse oils and even bake mini cakes (see here) directly in the same Nova decarboxylator! Keep your eyes peeled here as we explore more and more functionality and uses for the FX.
Best Practices
All of the components that come with the unit must be used every time – even when using accessories, like our Concentrate and Infusion Sleeve! The unit consists of 3 parts: the power base, the main unit, and the black lid (which has the attached purple silicon lid bottom.
When loading herbs or other plant material into the FX, they should always be loose and there should always be room on the top. NOTE: the fill line is only for wet material–oil, milk, etc.
The unit has a time range in times for cycles, but should run for less than three hours for all settings. If you notice your unit is running longer then it should or need to stop the cycle early: Carry out a manual stop by holding down the Power button for 10 seconds until the light turns green. If this doesn’t work, unplug the unit – then contact us (support@ardentcan2019.wpengine.com) if anything seems amiss it is always best to contact us right away so we can help!
The FX is for indoor use only and must be used at room temperature – not in a garage or a basement! Doing so can cause the unit to run outside of it’s normal cycle which may result in damage. Misuse of the unit is not covered under the warranty.
Your unit should cool between every cycle. The needs to be left to cool until the light has turned green, and then for 20-30 min afterwards. It should always be cool to the touch when starting as not letting the unit come back to room temp before using it again may cause the unit to misbehave or stop working.
Once you start the cycle let it be! It is important that the unit not be opened while it is still running – no peeking!
Some condensation is completely normal when decarbing – like all plants, cannabis has water content that is released when heated.
1. What can you decarb in the unit?
You can decarb cannabis flower and concentrates, including kief, in your FX.
2. How much can you decarb or infuse at a time?
Roughly four ounces of flower (or more!) depending on density, or 28 fluid ounces of oil. The most important thing to keep in mind is that plant material should never be squished or compressed down in the device – only fill to what fits naturally. Oil and other liquids need to always be under the FILL line.
3. Will the cannabis decarb while I am infusing?
This was a very common question and so we tested, tested, tested. Our research has shown that you should always decarb with an A1 or A2 cycle first, let the unit cool for at least 20 minutes, and then mix the activated cannabis and oil material and run through an infuse cycle. If you don’t decarb before you infuse, your oil will only be approx 20%-30% activated. Decarbing and then infusing is the correct process. Check out our own Velvet Purp infusion into Extra Virgin Olive Oil here.
4. What container can I decarb concentrates or infuse in?
You can decarb concentrates and infuse directly inside the stainless steel inner cavity of the FX, or any heat safe container that fits comfortably.
5. How long do I infuse for?
Our research has shown that the infusion cycle needs at least 45 minutes to extract the most out of THC or CBD. Ardent’s tests have shown that whether or not the infusion runs for an hour or 2 hours, the infusion rates are nearly identical. This means that infusion times can ultimately be left up to a consumer’s preference or the material requirements. If running for less than the automatic cycle time, make sure to set a timer when you start your infusion cycle to be sure when you should manually end the cycle. As mentioned, No sleeve is necessary to infuse or decarb in your FX. Learn more about our research testing different infusion times here.
6. How do I manually end a cycle?
Hold down the button until it turns green! Not turning green? Just unplug it.
7. Can I decarb outside or in my garage?
No – much like most kitchen appliances (and people 🙂 your unit needs to be at room temperature to work its best.
7. What happens when something goes wrong?
Or it seems like the cycle is running too long? Manually end the Cycle (see the Quick Start guide’s #5 for instructions)– then contact us at support@ardentcan2019.wpengine.com. If anything seems amiss it is always best to contact us right away so we can help!
8. What if I accidentally end my decarb cycle early (power goes out, etc.) – what should I do?
Estimate about how long the decarb cycle was running for and subtract it from two hours. Rerun the cycle for this length of time and manually end it (see step 5).
9. What about CBD? And about CBG?
CBD can be activated easily using the same steps as THC, except using the A2 setting. CBG can be activated easily using the same steps as THC, using the A1 setting. Our education section has all of our most current research, for instance:
10. These edibles feel different then the edibles I usually make with my oven – why?
Some of our customers are very used to CBN, a cannabinoid present when over decarbing like when smoking or using an oven. CBN can often feel heavier and more body-heavy and can be increased in your product by running your THC material twice. You are in control of the cannabinoids you want to receive!
11. Precision decarboxylation and infusion are new to me – I don’t want to put my whole batch in at once – what if I make a mistake?
There is no minimum in the device – so always feel free to experiment with small amounts! In fact – that is what we recommend anytime you are trying something new whether it be a new machine, new oil, or a new recipe.
12. Does it smell a lot?
No, the unit is odorless – unless you are standing right over it taking a big sniff 😉 If your unit seems to be sharing its odor more than it should be please reach out and let us know so we can help! To minimize smell, let the unit cool fully before removing your perfectly decarbed product as the hotter air releases more smell into the environment.
13. Can I use alcohol in the device?
In short, no. Since alcohol alone is a strong enough solvent to almost instantly infuse, there’s no need for heat during the process. Most importantly, mixing heat and alcohol is dangerous and puts you at risk; alcohol should never be heated in the FX.
