Cannabis-Infused Iced Coffee Hacks for Summer

There’s nothing like starting your day off with a foamy, shaken iced coffee. As a Massachusetts-based company, you already know that we run on… you get the idea.

Well, what if we told you that you could actually drink your cannabis edibles? Cannacoffee makes for the perfect wake and bake!

Whether you’re making your coffee or espresso at home, or if you’re snatching up a box of Joe from the drive-through, you can infuse your brew as soon as you’re indoors (or outdoors, so long as you’re not driving,) with cannabis or hemp using the magic of Ardent technology.

Cannabis iced coffee gives us the ideal blend of alertness and chill. Make you own THC or CBD coffee customized in flavor, dose, sweetness, lightness, and roast. Here’s how:

Some Fun Ways to Infuse Your Iced Coffee

  • Infused coffee ice cubes to infuse your beverage while keeping it from getting watery (demonstrated below)
  • Simple cannasyrup, which can have added rose, lavender, vanilla, cinnamon, and other flavors if desired (demonstrated below)
  • Infused whipped cream topping (demonstrated below)
  • Cannasugar
  • Infused heavy cream or milk to lighten your coffee
  • Infused caramel for flavor and sweetness
  • Infused bulletproof coffee to stay full longer

Tips for Cannabis-Infused Coffee

  • Consider using a handheld milk frother to stir your medicine into your drink. It keeps things neat and clean while efficiently distributing your additives.
  • Adding lecithin in with your cannasugar keeps it from sticking to the sides of the cup, and adding lecithin in with your THC or CBD oil keeps it from separating from the liquid. Additionally, it aids with bioavailability.
  • Opt for reusable tumblers and thermoses as often as possible to help save Mother Earth. These recipes are so discreet that you’d never be able to tell that they’re infused, even if yours is see-through!
  • Enjoy your cannabis coffee with a side, such as our Breakfast Cloud Cakes, which are infused blueberry and chocolate chip muffins made directly inside your Nova or FX device!
  • Use your remaining coffee grounds, infused oil, and raffinate to make an exfoliating coffee scrub for your hands and body.

Equipment Needed

  • Ardent Nova or FX
  • Ice cube tray
  • Coffee maker, moka pot, espresso machine, etc.

Cannabis-Infused 4th of July Parfait

Happy 4th of July! To us, three day weekends are all about taking edibles, sleeping in, and waking up to enjoy more good music, food, fireworks, and poolside vibes.

Whether you’re enjoying a cannabis-infused BBQ, or just infusing a few sides for a pot-picnic, enjoy your elevated 4th of July with our favorite infused red, white, and blue parfait recipe.

How to Get Started

This recipe calls for infused heavy cream, which we’ll turn into whipped cream.

To make infused cream, start with decarboxylating your plant material inside the Ardent Nova or FX. In the Nova, use the Concentrate and Infusion Sleeve to hold your flower, kief, concentrate, or plant parts, slide it inside the unit, cover, and press the single button interface until the cycle is complete. In the FX, use the Concentrate and Infusion Sleeve to hold your flower, kief, concentrate, or plant parts, slide it inside the unit, cover, and press A1 to activate THC or CBG rich material, and A2 to activate CBD rich material.

Once the decarb cycle is complete, pour heavy cream over the activated material, submerging it completely, and run another cycle in the Nova, or an Infuse cycle in the FX. Remove the sleeve once the cycle has finished, and strain using the Ardent Frainer before refrigerating until cold.

To determine the dose of your infused cream, you must first determine how many grams you’re using in your infusion. To make things simple, let’s say we’re using 1 gram. If you purchased your cannabis or hemp compliantly, you’ll find lab testing information on the back of the packaging. Determine the amount of milligrams by moving the decimal point over one space to the right. 23% = 230. During decarb, the acid molecule is displaced. This acid molecule is always 13% of the starting material’s weight. Subtract 13% from 230 and you’ll get about 200 mgs.

Now, the 200 mgs are only available when used as-is, consumed whole and decarbed. If you infuse into oils, butters, milks, creams, and alcohol, you must know the infusion rate. Our lab testing has determined that in the Nova or FX, you get around 70% infusion into cream. In this case, our 1 gram of 23% THCA-rich material will yield about 140 mgs once it’s infused inside of cream.

Equipment Needed

Ingredients

  • 1 cup heavy cream, infused
  •  ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ cup Marshmallow Fluff
  • ½ – 1 cup blueberries
  • ½ – 1 cup diced strawberries
  • 2 tablespoons cannasugar
  • 2 – 4 ladyfingers
  • Red, white, and blue sprinkles, optional

How to Make Cannabis-Infused Red, White, and Blue Parfaits

  1. Wash and slice strawberries. Pour cannasugar over top, allowing them to make their own syrup, and place in the refrigerator.
  2. Combine infused heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract in the stand mixer and whip on medium speed for about 2 – 3 minutes, or until stiff peaks form.
  3. Soak ladyfingers, a piece at a time, in the strawberry syrup. Place in the bottom of the mason jars as a crust.
  4. Add a layer of strawberries over top.
  5. Add a layer of infused whipped cream over top.
  6. Add a layer of blueberries over top.
  7. Do another round of layers, starting with syrup-soaked ladyfingers.
  8. Finish with the remaining strawberry syrup, strawberries, and red, white, and blue sprinkles.

Other Red, White, and Blue Treats to Infuse

  • Red, white, and blue infused chocolate-dipped pretzel sticks
  • Strawberry and blueberry cheesecake
  • Patriotic charcuterie
  • Strawberry, blueberry, marshmallow skewers
  • American flag cakepops or cakesicles

How to Make Cannabis-Infused Caramels

Cannabis caramels are super portable, delicious treats that store very well in the freezer for long periods of time. Weed caramels are chewy, sweet, and totally customizable in dose: for example, we really love infusing the recipe’s cream with CBD, and the cannabutter with THC, to really personalize the experience.

If you’re looking for the perfect, soft, yummy cannabis caramel recipe, you’ve come to the right place. Keep reading!

Types of Weed Caramels

The best part about making canna caramels is trying out different flavors and varieties. Find some fun alternate flavor options below:

  • Honey Matcha Caramels
  • Sea salt caramels
  • Chai tea caramels
  • Black sesame caramels
  • Bourbon caramels
  • Honey, Pistachio, Saffron caramels

Equipment Needed

  • 3 quart saucepan
  • Glass baking dish
  • Aluminum foil
  • Candy thermometer
  • Wooden spoon, for mixing
  • Ardent Nova or FX decarboxylator
  • Wax paper, for wrapping

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups cannabis-infused heavy cream
  • 1 cup sugar
  • ½ cup light brown sugar
  • ⅓ cup light corn syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon cannabutter

How to Get Started

As you probably already know, decarboxylation is the precise process of removing the acid molecule from plant material in order to bring it into its activated state. To break that down further, this process essentially turns THCA into THC, and turns CBDA into CBD.

That molecule, however, weighs about 13% of the total flower’s weight, so when calculating the maximum potential of your activated dose, that loss needs to be factored in.

A general rule for calculating your dose in the Nova or FX is to multiply the percentage of THCA or CBDA in your material by .87% to adjust for the missing molecule. If your starting material is at 23% THCA, you’ll be left with about 200 mgs of potential THC, because Ardent technology gets over 97% activation in every decarb cycle.

If you use a device other than the Nova or FX, however, such as the oven, toaster oven, or crockpot, which fluctuates in temperature and is less precise, you’ll lose an additional 30-40% of cannabinoids during the decarb process.

Now, this recipe only calls for a small amount of cannabutter, which can be infused, but if you’re only infusing the butter, you might want to use decarbed concentrates to make it stronger. You can also infuse the cream, expecting about 70% infusion into your end product. Find testing for milk and cream infusions on our blog

Decarb your material in the Nova or in the FX, using the A1 setting for THC-rich material and A2 setting for CBD-rich material. Infuse butter in the Nova or FX, on the infuse setting. If infusing cream, use the FX on the infuse setting as well.

Directions

  1. On medium heat, add infused cream, sugar, brown sugar, and corn syrup to the saucepan, stirring constantly until it comes to a boil.
  2. Use a candy thermometer to check the temperature, and allow it to come to 245 degrees.
  3. Mix in salt, vanilla, and butter and remove from heat. Pour into your foil lined baking pan and allow it to rest for 5 hours.

What Our Community is Making

Our community is making tons of caramel recipes in so many different varieties. Here are some of their favorite uses for this sweet snack:

  • Peanut butter, nutella and caramel filled chocolates
  • Caramel chocolate fudge
  • Salted caramel and chocolate chips in the classic box pot brownie
  • Gingerbread caramels
  • cannabis infused caramel toffees
  • Salted caramel cheesecake with caramel crisps

Ardent Community Methodology

  • John K. Lyons adds sweetened condensed milk, vanilla, chocolate chips, and decarboxylated cannabis concentrate to a double boiler.
  • Laronda Hutchison uses store-bought caramel bits and concentrate with the double boiler method before adding coconut flakes and macadamia nuts.
  • Matt Roach melted down chewy caramels in a parchment lined bowl in the microwave before quickly stirring in some infused coconut oil.
  • Tony Vongphachanh used a recipe similar to ours, but with infused ghee instead of butter.
  • Lisa Jane adds apple cider, cloves, cinnamon, ginger, and allspice in her recipe, to give it a spiced apple flavoring.

Meet Jae Graham, CEO & Co-Founder of MARYJAE

June 28th marked the 52nd anniversary of the Stonewall Riots, also referred to as the Stonewall Uprising.

In 1969, the police raided the Stonewall Inn, a gay bar in NYC and landmark for the LGBTQIA+ community. Although raids were common, this night was different, as people, Black and brown trans folks specifically, fought back. This led to the street erupting into six days of protests and violent clashes with law enforcement.

The uprising inspired resistance and solidarity, and sparked the modern-day LGBTQIA+ civil rights movement. On the one-year anniversary of the riots, thousands of individuals marched in what was then called “Christopher Street Liberation Day,” America’s first gay pride parade.

Ardent recognizes PRIDE, and loudly celebrates each individual in our community this month, next month, and all year long!

We spoke with Jae Graham, Ardent Community Member and CEO & Co-Founder of MARYJAE, Texas’s Most Inclusive Cannabis Dispensary. LGBTQ+, BIPOC, and women-owned, MARYJAE is a safe and inclusive space for all people who enjoy cannabis responsibly, with an unapologetic and heart-centered approach to cannabis.

Set the mood with our PRIDE playlist on Spotify and keep reading Jae’s interview below!

Need an Ardent device to join in on the fun? Between 6/23 – 6/30, a portion of proceeds on Ardent Nova and FX sales will be donated to the Marsha P. Johnson Institute, which protects and defends the human rights of Black transgender people.

1. Jae, tell us about yourself. What’s your story?

  • My name is Jae Graham of MARYJAE here in Austin, Texas. We are Texas’s only inclusive cannabis dispensary — and you heard that right, cannabis dispensary in Austin, Texas. We were probably one of the first as we started in 2017. But I started way before that. I’ve been in the industry for almost 15 years now. I started behind the scenes as a buyer, and I kind of fell into that position by accident, but it started my career and my dreams.
  • During that process, my father who I was the caretaker of, was diagnosed with cancer and cirrhosis of the liver. Towards the middle of his cancer stage, he started to get worse, and I offered to share cannabis with him. He was like, “I’m dying anyways, might as well.” I remember rolling him his first joint, and my brother and I sat down with him and we smoked a joint for the first time with him. I remember him saying, “Honey, I don’t feel good. I need to lay down.” I thought, “Great. Here we go. I made my father sick.” We laid him down, went back and checked on him about 20 minutes later, and woke him up. I asked him how he was feeling and he said, “Can we please get some chili cheese dogs and some slushes?” Just to hear him say he was hungry was a start to something so beautiful and the start to MARYJAE really. He really inspired me to want to help others on their cannabis journey.
  • So that’s kind of who I am and my story. I’m like Austin’s cannabis journey guide. I’m here for my community and I love what I do. To be able to share it the way we do in a safe, open space that is inclusive for people like me. It’s amazing.
  • I also started my job in retail. So to be able to bring my love and passion for cannabis, and then my life experience with my father and then being in retail, it just seemed to be fitting to open a shop and a retail place for my community to have somewhere safe to explore cannabis.

2. Who or what inspired you to get into the cannabis industry?

  • I accidentally kind of fell into the cannabis industry and space. I actually started as a buyer for an adult shop, and they were wanting to purchase products in the cannabis space to “up” that section of their shop and asked if I could go to a tradeshow and bring items back. And I mean, that was history. As soon as I hit the floor at my first trade show, I felt alive. I felt like I belonged. I felt like I had been missing out all these years. Like I didn’t know there were other people like me, that were proud cannabis users and advocates, and just people that were lovers of the plant. To be able to start as a buyer, go to that trade show, and be able to bring amazing products back was a dream. So that one case that I was able to go shop for, turned into several cases, turned into like 16 cases, and then they asked if I could help purchase for other shops. I knew I had found my calling.
  • After several years of behind the scenes and being a buyer, and networking and learning everything I needed to learn, not knowing that I was learning all these things that would take me onto my journey. During that time, like I said my father was sick and towards the last couple days, you know, weeks really months even. He asked me to share cannabis with people like him, elder people, sick people, people that probably don’t have family, you know, to talk about cannabis was something that we definitely didn’t talk about. It was something that my brother and I always got in trouble for. It was something that we grew up knowing was “bad”. “Don’t do drugs” and that it was a drug. So for him to tell me to share cannabis with everyone and everything, I was like “sure, Dad, I will share pot with the world, you know, in Texas”, but not knowing that he would inspire MARYJAE. So my father, Larry Graham, is the inspiration behind MARYJAE. Everything that we do and the reason that started this passion and fire inside of me. If I start to lose my way, all I do is think about him. And remember why I started this journey.
  • So, by him asking me to share cannabis with the world, I didn’t know how I’d be doing that. Unfortunately, he ended up passing, and he left me a house. The American Dream. Something that he and my mother worked their lives for to leave a house for me and a house for my brother.
  • My partner, Francisco, said, “You know what? I think you should sell your house that your father left you, and continue helping people like him.” I looked at her like “hell no, what are you thinking? It’s the American Dream. My father said never ever get rid of the house. It’s something that people work their lives for. And they work their lives for, so I could have something.” And so I sat with that and I just knew I couldn’t sell my house. But I kept thinking about my father, knowing that there are people out there like him. People that are curious about cannabis, people that are kind of connoisseurs of cannabis, people that just want to talk about cannabis to connect, people that want to learn about cannabis. I knew that I could be that person. And I could create a really safe space, and I can’t stress that enough, safe. Safe because the old culture that I grew up in, you walk into a shop and say, “Mom, I’ve seen people literally get picked up and thrown out of shops,” and it scared me. It was intimidating. I was afraid to ask questions, I didn’t want to say the wrong thing. I knew that the times were changing, and I knew that I never fit, or “belonged” in those shops, even though we were all there for one common thing. I still never felt like I fit. I knew all of our hard work, all of our passion, all of our love, that we could create the space for our community here in Texas because I was unheard of.
  • So, I decided to sell my house and everything in it, and it’s not as simple as that, it even gets trickier. I can’t believe that I’m saying this and this actually happened on the day we literally were selling the house, and like moments to the buyer signing the house to purchase, a car ran through the house, straight through the yard through the fence, destroyed the trees, and into the kitchen. Mind you, I didn’t even tell you that getting that house up to par and where it needed to be to be sold, and updating things took everything financially from us. So there was no other alternative. Everything we had literally was in that house and everything that was in that house we sold. This was the last step of starting MARYJAE and starting our new life and onto our journey, adventure, and what we were supposed to be doing. To have the car run through the house, made me think, “Was this as my father telling me, please don’t?”
  • I was looking for the reason because I thought my life was over. We had no more money and I didn’t know what was going to happen. But life was not over, insurance kicked in, and we sold the house.
  • And then MARYJAE was born! Francis and I traveled for about a year. I really wanted to get down, network and learn about the people that I wanted to bring in and be very strategic. Like I said, we’re not for the normal, we’re not for everyone. We’re very, very unique, but I knew there were people out there like us. So they would come, they would find us and they would know that they have a home.
  • And that’s exactly what we did. MARYJAE was created, and we traveled, like I said for about a year, we quit our jobs. And then we just hustled, tore that place a part, got the right designers in, the right fabricators in, the people that could see our vision, and just made it come to life. We truly, I believe, changed the game and if you want to call it the smoke shop world. We wanted to cross a dispensary and a smoke shop, you know, some kind of lifestyle. And that’s what MARYJAE is. She is everything cannabis.
  • And again, my father was the one that inspired MARYJAE and continues to inspire everything that we do.

3. What are you the most proud of?

  • I am the most proud of the community that we have built, and the people that have just come and identify with what we’re doing, who are just amazing. We’ve been in business almost four years in October, we beat COVID, we lost all of our staff. So Francis and I started all over again.  We had to close our shop, we did curbside, I traveled all over Austin to do deliveries to get people their medicine, we never took a day off.
  • We continue to move every day just to stay alive, and we fucking made it, and that is special thanks to our community. Most of the clientele were new and I asked, “How did you hear about us?” “A friend told me.” I mean, that’s huge. I saw a lot of old faces but I saw tons of new, and that’s how it goes. That’s why I say community. The love is real.
  • I love being in the shop every day and hearing people come in and say, “Oh my gosh, what is this? Oh my gosh it’s so cute. What did I walk into?” And just tell us how beautiful the shop is and the amazing products that they didn’t even know existed and say, “just thank you for being so nice.” I’m just so proud of all of that. I’m so proud that our community has come together and they are accepting of who we are, and they are seen when they walk into our shop. And that’s the one thing I love hearing from people. They feel something, and they feel seen, and they feel special and that’s, I mean, they are special. Everyone is special and I love knowing that people truly feel that when they walk in our shop. I am most proud of my people and my community.

4. How is MARYJAE helping to build a truly inclusive cannabis industry?

  • I mean, I truly believe that we are helping build an inclusive cannabis industry in space because we are just that… we are inclusive. Like I said, in the beginning, we’re not for everybody. We are different. And that’s beautiful because there’s so many of us out there. We’re finding each other and I think that’s how we’re helping. We’re staying true to who we are and ourselves and that shows. People find us and they tell their friends about us and all walks of life. We welcome everyone. But who I am here for and what my demographic in the space I created for was for women, for people of color, for the queer community.
  • That’s everything that I am and I never felt like I belonged. I wanted somewhere that was so fucking rad that everyone wanted to be a part of it, but you know that you’re part of it, because when you walk in, you’re loved and you’re seen. We live that every day from who we are, to my staff, to the products I bring in. A lot of research goes into that. There’s a lot of factors into picking the products that I choose. They have to do several things.
  • One of those things being is inclusive about bringing in my people, small businesses, people of color, queer. Everything that I am. You have to be at least one of those to get into my shop, and that’s just where it starts. I think that’s how we were really helping truly build an inclusive space in the industry. We are what we say and I bring in and truly uplift and believe in everything that we are and all the people that are around us.

5. What does an “unapologetic and heart-centered approach to cannabis” mean and look like to you?

  • An unapologetic and heart-centered approach to cannabis means exactly that I am unapologetic in every move that I make, I stay true to myself and my heart, like truly what is in my heart. I don’t follow trends. I don’t follow people. I do what I want. And I love telling the staff that we make the rules. There is nothing to follow. We do what’s in our heart and I’ve always done that. That’s what I mean by being unapologetic.
  • I am me. Everything that you see, I am an open book, and when you come in, I’m here. I truly see you, I truly care about you. I’ve had people say, “You actually care.” I do and when you come back in, I will follow up on the conversation we had, or I might reach out on Instagram because I truly care and I do things differently. I’m heart-centered, I’m empathic, I just love and care about people so much.
  • And you can truly tell that in our approach of what we do, everything is heart-centered and unapologetic. That’s how it should be. I think that’s what sets us apart and what keeps us going. We’re just different and different is beautiful.

6. Any advice on how companies can take strong, concrete actions to make “diversity” and “inclusion” more than buzzwords?

  • Definitely. We are who we are and it starts from like who we are, who our staff is, the products we bring in, those people behind it. I feel like companies can really take action by starting there, start staffing people and hiring people that are diverse, that are inclusive, start bringing in products that those people are the creators. Start there. Don’t talk about it, be about it. Show it every day. All day.
  • Advice for companies that are large and have a huge skill, mind you, we’ve only been in business four years and we are a very small business. It is Francis and I, and our brothers, and we just hired an amazing person, Madison. People assume we’re this huge corporation but we’re not. We’re super small and just stay true to ourselves, and we just continue to use our platform to uplift people of all walks of life.
  • Our people — people of color, queer people, women and plus size women, you name it. If you have the platform, you can use it the right way. Uplift the right people, the people that we need to be supporting. Those people are us.

7. How have you/are you celebrating PRIDE month?

  • I feel like we’re always celebrating pride at MARYJAE, but definitely for Pride Month! We have turned the store upside down into rainbows. All the displays, everything is rainbow. We are highlighting our amazing queer community products that we carry all through our special cases in the middle of the showcase and highlight them. It’s gorgeous and we have broken up the rainbow through the store so there’s a red section, orange section, yellow section.
  • It’s beautiful. We’ve been seeing so many people from out of town come in and just celebrate. They’re loving the rainbows. We’re definitely celebrating pride every day, but we actually celebrate Pride in August here in Texas. We will be having a little event and all that good stuff. Like I said, we celebrate pride all the time.
  • On June 27th, we donated a percentage of our sales to Out Youth in Austin, Texas. We partnered with them before when we first started and we love them. They are for Austin’s youth, and that’s huge and near and dear to our hearts. Francis has a beautiful story for that. We released an awesome T-shirt with them.

8. Any organizations/non-profits you’d like to highlight?

  • Definitely want to highlight Out Youth. We got to take a tour of the facility, it is just an amazing space for the youth. They have a kitchen, they have an art room, they have computers, they have instruments, they have a place and a space just to be them and just to create. So we identify with that completely — shout out to Out Youth!

9. What does the plant mean to you?

  • The plant means everything to me. Literally everything. It means life. It means family. It means love. It means no more pain. It just means so many things. Cannabis, I literally owe my life to it. I owe everything that she’s done for me, my father, my family. The plant is just the most beautiful creation on this planet.
  • I suffer from nerve damage and depression, and depression from my father’s passing. Cannabis has truly helped me get through some of the toughest days and the toughest nights. She’s always been there, and she was there for me to bond with my father during his lasting days, she was there for me through my nerve damage and my pain, and she’s there for my depression to pick me up and keep me going. You know she’s just a part of our family. I owe my life to cannabis, everything that she has done for my family and people I love. That’s why I created MARYJAE, not just for my father but, I mean just for what it did for him, what it does for us, my family. Surely the family that smokes together stays together.
  • They say something tragic comes from something beautiful, and that’s what happened with my father’s passing, and it’s tragic. And I went through a depression. But what came out of it was something beautiful, something I could have never even imagined. We have built such a beautiful, amazing cannabis community. And it’s just amazing, really, to be able to find my people. Finally.
  • So much connection, family, healing, and love. I just think of so many positive things when I think of a plant. The plant means everything to me.

10. What is your favorite infused dish or product to make using the FX?

  • I have so many favorite dishes and because it’s so amazing. It’s so easy to make stuff but I want to say probably my go to is my avocado chocolate chip cookies. They come out into a nice little loaf when you bake it in the FX and you can just slice off from the loaf. It’s like a little slice of heaven, and put some extra butter on it. Yes, yes, yes, yes. Definitely would say my chocolate avocado chip cookies.
  • Also want to add that the Ardent FX is my favorite infusion device to use and makes every kind of oil in it. I have pretty much tried everything in the Ardent and I feel like I use it pretty much every other weekend, if not every weekend, I know that I truly get excited when a customer comes in and purchases one. I have to go home that night and like, open it all up and infuse because I’m so excited for them.

11. Why do you love Ardent?

  • There’s so many reasons why I love and carry Ardent. Like where do I start? I have, like I said, been in the cannabis space for quite some time, and I have probably seen and tried all the butter makers out there. From the very first generations to the most bougiest, and I thought they’ve all been done. I’ve seen them all. They still are messy, there are some nicer ones, there’s some okay ones that are faster but I’m not sure how they’re actually working.
  • Then along comes Ardent and I find out that the creator is female and of color, and is just everything that I love and I believe in. I had to explore the product more and I had to see what it was about.
  • I remember reaching out, asking about wholesale and I got directly to where I needed to go to. I remember asking if they do a special for retails so they can try it because, honestly, every product I bring in, I personally try it. So this was kind of something different for me. I didn’t get to try it before but I believed in everything I read, everything that I saw, like I researched the shit out of it. I watched all the videos that I could find. Everything that I could find, I loved. I took a leap of faith, went ahead and made the whole order, and decided to bring it into the shop. I took one home and I did some videos. I tried it the first night and I was blown away. Blown away.
  • I don’t know about you guys but I have been using cannabis for quite a long time, I am older. So I fall into an older generation where making infusing cannabis is definitely a task and for me, it was an all day process. Something that I really had to schedule and plan for if people were coming over. It was a long process and I tried many methods and explored, and in every method, cleanup was a bitch. It was a task and just frustrating but something I desperately needed because that is my medicine. It’s something that can get expensive so I needed to make my own, and I have a higher tolerance so I make the perfect batch for me. Infusing cannabis is definitely a big part of my life so to be able to have a machine like Ardent, that just takes all of that stress and hassle out of it — I was mind blown.
  • I remember bringing it home and unwrapping it. Number one, presentation is everything for me. I’m a merchandiser as well and if anybody’s been to MARYJAE, you can tell. You’ve probably never seen the products like the way we display them. Everything is special and that’s how I felt with Ardent when I was opening up my FX. from the outer packaging to the description, popping the top off of it, opening up to like a beautiful purple holder, and zipping it. Feeling the quality of it, and then taking her out and placing her on the counter. Plugging her in and just, I didn’t know what I was up for.
  • I was just blown away that you literally can decarb, infuse and bake all in one system so I wanted to put it to the challenge because that’s what I do. I usually try everything before bringing it into the shop and I literally tried to be that person that tries to break it because that customer is out there and then I want to see what the process is. What does customer service look like, what does my customer have to go through — I go through that. Because my customer deserves that and I want to be their guide, all the way through, so I can help them.
  • I took it home and I stuffed it full of everything I could and I did the decarb, and then I infused. This is when I usually have to cheese cloth it, and it gets everywhere. It’s usually really messy. I remember taking the top off and it was smell-proof. Cannot stress that enough. Anybody in a small place, anybody with kids, anybody who has to be discreet, this is the machine for you. My partner was asleep and I do it all while she’s sleeping so usually she wakes up but she didn’t. She walks past the kitchen, and doesn’t say a thing. I asked if she smelled anything and she said no. I opened it up and she was mind blown because usually she smells the hell out of it so that was super impressive.
  • I opened up the lid, and just looked at the material itself, the coloring, and it was gorgeous. I strained it and the quality of what the product came out as, I’ve never seen anything so clean and so beautiful. Just mind blowing. So then putting it to the test and baking with it, the potency every time is on point. I have had batches of butter and oil that I’ve burnt and messed up and have just gone to shit. It’s kind of a guessing game but with Ardent, there’s no guessing.
  • She is the guide to your baking journey. There’s no other machine, and I know I probably shouldn’t say this but I have had some other machines in my shop and literally gave them away or got rid of them, because there’s nothing else better than this machine. My customers and my community only deserve the best. It’s the most amazing machine ever! I just get so excited every time I sell one and every time someone comes in and asks for it, or every time someone comes in and points to it like, “What is that?”, and I get to let them know it’s the most amazing thing that you need — it’s not a want, it’s a need.
  • This machine, the brand’s values, who is behind them is everything that MARYJAE is and believes in. Our values align, our demographics align. We are both the same woman. I am so proud to be carrying the Ardent FX, all the accessories and everything in between, and I will always support you. Ardent will always be a staple at MARYJAE. I love you guys.

Last month we congratulated Chef Wendy Zeng on winning her Chopped 420 episode! We interviewed Wendy to learn more about her experience on the competitive cooking show. We also gathered insight from the community of Asians in Cannabis to learn more about allyship and representation in the industry.

Ardent Founder, Shanel Lindsay, reminds us that equity is not optional and Juneteenth is a reminder of that.

An Expectant Mother’s Guide to Cannabis

We connected with Sheena M. Roberson, Founder of Cannabis Noire, a company focused on providing education, resources, and opportunities within the cannabis industry to underrepresented groups.

As an expecting mother, Sheena realized that she had to play trial and error with cannabis products to find something that really worked for her. She dealt with a number of issues including anxiety, back pain, nausea, and headaches. It wasn’t easy to create a list of products that spoke to the women in similar situations within her community. Due primarily to stigma, she also found that it was challenging to find information out there to support what she needed.

Disclaimer: Talk to your doctor, midwife, or other provider to learn more about cannabis use during pregnancy. Read this insightful Forbes article: Using Cannabis While Pregnant Does Not Impair Children’s Cognition, Decades Of Studies Suggest

Exploring Terpenes

Instead of searching for the perfect strain, Sheena started searching for the ideal terpene profile. After referencing her consumption journals, she found that she experienced recurring relief from certain strains, noting the dominant terpene.

By understanding her ideal terpene profile, Sheena was able to create her own infusions to manage her ailments and pains during pregnancy. Delivery ran the gamut from sublingual tincture application to inhalants and topicals, which supported her anxiety, nausea, and back pain, respectively.

Talks with Your Doctor

Sheena understands that discussing cannabis consumption with your doctor isn’t always easy. Depending on who you’re talking with, it can be extremely difficult knowing how much to divulge, given the heavy stigma around cannabis. Sheena found that 78% of expecting moms have experienced negative responses when disclosing that they can consume cannabis to medical professionals. Sheena suggested that,

“The safest way to discuss your cannabis consumption is to connect with cannabis-friendly medical professionals who can help answer questions and offer insight to your problems.”

Her platform, Cannabis Noire, is a great place to start to connect with a listing of canna-friendly doctors, nurses, doulas, therapists, and midwives who are all well-versed in cannabis and pregnancy. Cannabis Noire also provides resources to commonly asked questions, concerns, and things to remember while delivering in the hospital.

How to Handle Stretch Marks

Since this is not Sheena’s first pregnancy, she acknowledges that stretch marks are a sign of growth and evolution. She embraces them, but this time around she decided to make sure she did the best to nurture and fortify her skin, not so much to avoid them, but to prepare her belly for the new shape she’d be taking.

With her Ardent FX, Sheena created a blend of oils that do more than prepare, but also protect and prevent stretch marks completely. She understands everyone is different, but after sharing it with friends, and noticing improvements with older marks, she’s a believer.

Equipment Needed

Ingredients

  • 15 drops of jojoba oil
  • 6 drops pumpkin seed oil
  • 15 drops argan oil
  • 12 drops of infused sweet almond oil (dosed to preference)*

How to Make Infused Pregnancy Stretch Mark Oil

  1. Decarboxylate your CBD-rich material inside the Ardent FX using the A2 setting.
  2. Pour sweet almond oil over your activated material using the Concentrate and Infusion Sleeve, fully submerging the material. Begin an infusion cycle in the FX by toggling the setting to Infuse.
  3. Combine the oils together in a blending bowl. Using the tincture bottle, place a funnel on top and pour into the container.
  4. Apply topically on expanding and growing areas daily. Reapply after showers and baths.

Ardent Cannabis-Infused Tzatziki

Tzatziki is a healthy, probiotic snack perfect for enjoying with vegetables, pita bread slices, chips, or alongside a meaty gyro. This dynamic Greek sauce does our Koroneiki Varietal Extra Virgin Olive Oil some justice, pairing deliciously with the estate-grown product for a tart, refreshing, acidic flavor with each bite.

This tzatziki can be made vegan by replacing the Greek yogurt with coconut or almond yogurt. You might also want to toss in some sunflower lecithin as well to assist with bioavailability.

https://vimeo.com/531059475

How to Get Started

Decarboxylate your cannabis or hemp in the Ardent Nova or FX, by running a full cycle, or by using the A1 setting for THC-rich material, and A2 setting for CBD-rich material. Add decarbed plant material and some Tuscan Herb Extra Virgin Olive Oil inside the Nova or FX using the silicone Concentrate and Infusion Sleeve, specific to whichever device you own, or the Ardent Vessel. This recipe only calls for 1 tablespoon of EVOO, so adjust your dose accordingly, or use kief or concentrate to make the infusion stronger.

Strain out the used material, if you used flower, and toss it in the garbage or store the raffinate for future use. If using the FX, attach the Infusion Press to the unit (without the Sleeve or Vessel) to separate the raffinate from the infused oil. If you used kief or concentrate for your infusion, simply give it a good stir.

A note on dosing: check your flower or concentrate’s label to identify the percentage of THCa in the product you’re working with. In the Nova or FX, which provide 97-100% activation, one gram of starting material at 23% THCa should yield about 200 mgs of usable THC. After removal of the acid molecule during decarb, which weighs 13% of your starting material, you’ll multiply the starting percentage by .87% to identify the dose in your finished product. Just move the decimal point one space to the right to determine the final dose.

Equipment Needed

  • Hand grater
  • Cheesecloth
  • Ardent Nova or FX
  • Bowl for mixing and serving
  • 1 gram of cannabis material

Ingredients

  • 1 cup full-fat Greek yogurt
  • 2 Persian cucumbers
  • 1 clove of garlic, minced
  • ¼ teaspoon white vinegar
  • A pinch of salt
  • Juice of ½ a small lemon (1 – 2 tablespoons)
  • 1 tablespoon of Ardent Tuscan Herb Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • ½ tablespoon of dried dill

Directions

  1. Grate 2 Persian cucumbers into a bowl, then squeeze out the liquid using a cheesecloth. Save the pulp for later.
  2. Add Greek yogurt to your bowl, then grate a garlic clove right over the yogurt and mix it in.
  3. Add in white vinegar, salt, and lemon juice. Mix. Then stir in the infused olive oil and dill.
  4. Serve with sliced cucumbers, peppers, carrots, and tomatoes, along with crackers, pita bread, and chips. Enjoy!

Ardent Infused PRIDE Cakesicles

Happy PRIDE!

Cannabis is an important medicine for many people managing so many types of symptoms and conditions. Because of this, cannabis edibles have become an important form of mutual aid for those in the LGBTQIA+ community who were impacted by the HIV/AIDS epidemic in the 80s, with little to no support from the government, and today, for those battling trauma, painful surgical transitions, and other medical conditions specific to each unique individual.

At Ardent, it’s our mission to empower cannabis users of all kinds to take their medicine into their own hands. Ardent is set apart with custom dosing, custom applications (edible, topical, sublingual, etc.), portability (when housing situations are inconsistent, Ardent remains solid as an all-in-one kitchen appliance,) and the ability to make your own medicine for just a fraction of dispensary pricing. Let’s take care of one another.

We’re donating a portion of sales on all Ardent Nova and FX devices between 6/23 – 6/30 to the Marsha P. Johnson Institute, supporting the ongoing fight for black transgender rights, safety, and visibility.

Infused PRIDE Cakesicles

How to Get Started

Through this recipe, we’ll be using boxed white cake mix. With Ardent technology, you can create an entirely infused dessert or meal by replacing the oil or butter that the recipe calls for with an infused counterpart. Try it out with cake, corn bread, pasta meals, or even brownies.

To make infused vegetable oil, start by activating your material inside your Nova or FX unit. Simply plug the device in, add the material, close the unit, and use the single-button interface on the Nova. In the FX, use the A1 setting to activate THC or CBG-rich material, or A2 for CBD-rich material.

Pour vegetable oil over the decarbed material inside the Concentrate and Infusion Sleeve, fully submerging the material, and begin another cycle in the Nova, or an Infusion cycle in the FX. Strain using the Frainer, Infusion Press, cheesecloth, or coffee filter of your choice.

Let’s get baking!

Equipment you’ll need:

Ingredients:

  • Boxed white cake mix
  • ⅓ cup infused vegetable oil (or whatever the cake mix box asks for)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 ounces Ardent Ghee (56 grams, melted)
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 12 ounces white chocolate
  • Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple food coloring
  • Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple chocolate melts

How to make cannabis-infused PRIDE Cakesicles:

  1. Preheat the oven. Begin making the cake batter using the instructions on the box: be sure to include infused oil where the mix calls for vegetable oil.
  2. Divide the batter into 6 even ramekins and mix in a few drops of each color, stirring thoroughly.
  3. Bake the ramekins inside the oven for the recommended time and temperature.
  4. Melt down chocolate in your Ardent device (using the Concentrate and Infusion Sleeve for mess-free cleanup,) microwave, or double boiler.
  5. Begin lining the cakesicle mold with the melted white chocolate, getting all the sides. Slip the popsicle sticks in the mold and freeze for 10 minutes.
  6. Take the cakesicle mold out of the freezer, patching up the holes and sides with more melted chocolate, and pop back into the freezer for an additional 10 minutes.
  7. Allow the cakes to cool down, and begin crushing the cakes into a fine dust.
  8. Make buttercream frosting by combining powdered sugar, ghee, and salt.
  9. Add a 1 teaspoon scoop of buttercream to each color of cake crumbs, and mix it well until you form a cake ball.
  10. Add a small scoop of each cake ball, in order, to each cakesicle mold until you’ve formed a rainbow.
  11. Add an additional layer of melted chocolate on top of the cake ball, removing any excess chocolate on the sides with a cake scraper or flat surface. Freeze for 10 minutes and enjoy!

Easily Baked With Ardent June 2021: Infused Tiramisu

June is already here, and we’re making delicious, infused tiramisu to enjoy at picnics, weed-friendly weddings, and any night of the week!

Ready to give this simple, delicious recipe a try? Grab your Ardent device and keep reading!

How to get started

This recipe calls for infused cream, which can be dosed however you like. To get started, place your plant material in the Nova, running a full cycle, or the FX, using A1 for THC or CBG-rich material, and A2 for CBD-rich material.

Then, pour your activated herb into the Concentrate and Infusion Sleeve (fit for either the Nova or FX,) and pour the heavy cream over top, fully submerging the plant material. Infuse the bud into the cream by running another cycle in the Nova, or the Infuse cycle in the FX.

To determine the dose of your final product, you must first know the percentage of your starting material. If you’re using just a gram, and your starting material contains 23% THCA, we’d move the decimal point over one space to the right (equaling 230 mgs.) Then we’d subtract 13% (which is the weight of the acid material that gets displaced during decarboxylation – this number is always the same.) In this case, you’ll be working with about 200 mgs of THC in your infusion.

However, cream has about a 70% infusion rate, as found in our lab testing, which would result in 140 mgs in the final heavy cream infusion. Distribute that into five 2 ounce jars, and each one should be about 28 mgs a piece.

Let’s get started.

Equipment you’ll need:
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup infused heavy cream
  • 10 ladyfingers
  • 1 cup of strong coffee, chilled
  • ½ cup confectioner’s sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup mascarpone
  • 2 tablespoons espresso powder
How to make cannabis-infused tiramisu:
  1. Break the ladyfingers in half, one at a time, and dip them into the cooled coffee until they’ve soaked up a good bit of coffee (and before they begin breaking down.)
  2. Coat the bottom of each jar with a soaked layer of ladyfingers.
  3. In a mixer, combine the infused heavy cream, vanilla, and confectioner’s sugar on medium speed until stiff peaks form.
  4. In another bowl, use a whisk to whip the mascarpone until it’s soft, then pour it into the whipped cream and mix on low for about 1 minute.
  5. Add the cream mixture to the piping bag and begin piping it in the jars over the soaked ladyfinger layer.
  6. Add another layer of soaked ladyfingers on top of the cream, and pipe out another layer of cream on top of that.
  7. Use a strainer to evenly powder the tops of each jar with espresso powder.
  8. Place your jars inside the refrigerator for 2-4 hours to cool and solidify.

The Ardent Guide to Infused Picnicking

It’s too beautiful outside to stay cooped up indoors. But since “outside” is so expensive, we’ve created the perfect guide to infused picnicking, so the “we have food at home” excuse isn’t stopping you from enjoying the lovely day.

Infused Picnic Checklist

  • Stay hydrated: use temperature-controlled thermoses to pack soups and cold drinks.
  • Bring a cooler: plenty of coolers are on wheels, making it even easier to carry everything back to the car.
  • Pack yoga mats: Use them underneath the picnic blanket for a more comfortable lounging experience.
  • A bagful of fun: Bring books, charged electronics, polaroid cameras, sketch pads, and board or card games to keep busy and entertained.
  • A bluetooth speaker: Fully charged + a dynamic playlist of tunes you can bliss out to.
  • A little cash: the ice cream truck always makes a great day better.
  • Small garbage bags, disposable plates, forks, knives, and plenty of napkins.

The Cannabis Cutie’s Lavender Vanilla Creamed Honey Recipe

Tammy Pettigrew aka The Cannabis Cutie is a California-based cannabis advocate, educator, and Ardent community member! She focuses on cannabis science, business, history, and debunking countless myths surrounding cannabis. Tammy “whipped up” a delicious recipe using her FX device. Keep reading below to learn all about her experience firsthand!

Tammy Pettigrew aka The Cannabis Cutie
Tammy Pettigrew aka The Cannabis Cutie

Have you ever opened your raw honey jar and noticed the huge crystals? It’s not a fun texture. You usually have to heat the honey up to break it apart, or suffer through the chunks.

I recently learned about creamed honey, sometimes called whipped honey. It’s crystallized honey that has been broken down into a shape that makes the honey spreadable. It’s a solution to the inevitable problem of raw honey sitting for too long.

How to Get Started

Now, there are two ways to start this recipe, you can take the easy way or you can take the long, hard road. The easy road is going to your local grocery store to purchase already prepared creamed honey, unless you have some on hand, then it’s even easier. The other option (and there are many) is to use a pestle and mortar on your crystallized honey, grinding it for about 40-60 minutes.

I opted for the latter, and whipped out my pestle and mortar to pound my little heart out.

Decarb, or activate, your concentrated material inside the Nova or FX, using the Concentrate and Infusion Sleeve to keep the mess to a minimum. Add your concentrate to the sleeve, cover the unit with the lid, and press the single-button interface on the Nova to start a decarb cycle. If you’re using the FX, use the A1 setting to activate THC or CBG-rich material, and A2 to activate CBD-rich material.

Equipment Needed

Ingredients

  • Crystallized honey or creamed honey (1:9)
  • Raw uncrystallized honey (9:1)
  • 1 teaspoon dried lavender
  • Vanilla bean or 1 teaspoon vanilla extract/flavoring
  • 1 gram of cannabis concentrate, decarbed
Crystalized Honey
Crystalized honey before

How to Make The Cannabis Cutie’s Lavender Vanilla Creamed Honey

  1. Grind your crystalized honey. It will take 40-60 minutes and will change textures from silky smooth beyond the large chunks, to a sandy texture, and lastly, to its final state. Once the seed honey is done, weigh it on the food scale. This step is important because you need about 10% seed honey to 90% uncrystallized raw honey.
  2. Mix the seed honey with the raw honey until well combined. Then add your vanilla bean and lavender and mix well.
  3. Pour honey over the decarbed cannabis in the Sleeve and begin an infusion cycle in the Nova or FX. Once you get the green indicator light, it’s time to pour your honey into your storage container.
  4. From here, patience is required. The honey must crystallize, and that can take anywhere from 1-3 weeks! Your honey also must be stored at 50-60 degrees Fahrenheit. Place it in the refrigerator to speed up the process. The honey is done when it’s hardened and spreadable, about 1-3 weeks. Pair with fresh bread, tea, or use as a topping.

Upping Your Stoner Summer Cookout

Summer weekends are the best time for edibles! Get started early (shout out to summer Fridays!) and pack a reusable water bottle filled with plenty of ice to stay cool and hydrated without the green hangover.

At BBQs, there’s plenty of snacks for when the munchies hit. On beach days, you can daydream while sinking your toes in the sand. For picnics, the grass will seem even greener. At family gatherings, tough conversations transform into pleasurable chit-chat. You get the point.

Here are a few of our go-to tips for hosting the ultimate stoner cookout:

  • Set up a designated “roll-up” table for guests to prep their own joints and blunts, or even pack their own bowls or bongs for a quick sesh!
  • Make a big, non-infused recipe for everyone, and put a small bowl of infused butter or elevated BBQ sauce to the side so attendees can dose as they go.
  • It’s important to include dosing labels on any infused dishes! Serving a platter of dosed food requires accuracy and transparency.
  • Remember – you can make recipes with any combination of THC, CBD or CBG, or even without cannabis or hemp, depending on your needs and mood.

Looking for a yummy infused recipe to serve at your next summer gathering? Our infused potato salad recipe is an instant edible that can be infused portion by portion for simple yet strategic dosing. It’s especially great for groups with mixed tolerances.

https://vimeo.com/531063992

How to Get Started

A lot goes into understanding your personal dose. In this recipe, we’ll be using ground, decarbed bud almost like a spice. We recommend making a big batch and adding decarbed bud bit by bit when it’s time to serve.

Since you get 97-100% activation of the cannabinoids in your starting material using Ardent technology, you can follow this easy formula to achieve a pretty accurate, predictable dose and experience:

You lose 13% of the original weight when the acid molecule is removed during decarboxylation. Starting percentage on one gram of bud (23% for example) x 10 (this is always the same) = 230 – 13% (this is always the same) = 200 mgs.

Equipment Needed

  • Ardent Nova or FX
  • Refrigerator
  • Large pot for boiling

Ingredients

  • 3 eggs
  • 2-3 pounds Russet potatoes
  • Ice water
  • ¾ cup mayonnaise
  • 1 ½ tablespoons dijon mustard
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Garlic powder, to taste
  • Old Bay, to taste
  • Dill, to taste
  • Crushed red pepper, to taste
  • 3 scallions, minced
  • 1 gram of ground, decarbed herb

How to Make Infused Potato Salad

  1. Decarb your bud inside the Ardent Nova or FX. Then grind it finely and place it to the side.
  2. Hard boil 3 eggs in a pot of salted water. Then peel the eggs, mince them, and place them to the side.
  3. Wash and peel 2-3 pounds of potatoes, placing them into an ice water bath as soon as they’re peeled.
  4. Boil the potatoes in salted water, allowing them to cook for 8 minutes. Drain the potatoes and refrigerate them for 10 minutes. Chop the potatoes into bite-sized pieces.
  5. Combine mayo, mustard, and spices.
  6. Add the mayo mixture to the potatoes, along with the chopped eggs, scallions, and decarbed bud.

When to Enjoy

  • Beachside
  • Pool parties
  • BBQs
  • Picnics
  • Family gatherings

Summer Skin Made Possible by Ardent

We asked self-care enthusiast, Nomi Miraj, Owner and Founder of NOMSTERNAILZ (a Portland-based and cannabis-friendly mobile nail service), how she uses her Ardent FX for creating infused skincare at home. As we prep for the summer months ahead, Nomi shares her DIY remedies for soothing dry skin.

“The climate before summer can be very harsh on the skin when the humidity level outside drops. When the air is cold and dry outside, water in your skin evaporates more quickly, making your skin feel dry and tight, which causes it to be flakey.

Now is a perfect time to prepare your skin for summertime! The art of body polish is even more interesting when you make your own products using your Ardent device with clean ingredients.”

Self-care is for everyone! Check out a few easy ways to treat your skin below.

How to Get Started

Activate your plant material in the Ardent Nova by running a cycle using the single-button interface, or in the FX using the A1 setting to activate THC or CBG-rich material, and the A2 setting to activate CBD-rich material.

Infuse your material into oils, butters, and other bases rich in fat for infused skincare products of all kinds. Pour your infusion medium over the activated material inside the unit, fully submerging the material, using the Vessel or Concentrate and Infusion Sleeve for mess-free cleanup. Then, run another cycle in the Nova, or run an Infuse cycle in the FX, strain (using the Frainer or Infusion Press to make things easy,) and get ready to craft a fully customizable self-care product.

Nomi’s Infused Bath Salt

Ingredients:

  • ¼ cup bath salt of your choice
  • ⅛ teaspoon unscented soap
  • ½ teaspoon fractionated coconut oil, infused
  • 15-20 drops of essential oil
  • Handful of herbs, to your preference

Instructions:

  1. Combine ⅛ cup Himalayan bath salt and ⅛ cup epsom salt.
  2. Add the unscented soap. (The unscented soap helps it to blend in the water.)
  3. Add the coconut oil and mix.
  4. Add the essential oil.
  5. Infuse it in the Ardent FX using the Vessel or Concentrate and Infusion Sleeve for 10-15 minutes.
  6. Mix the salt blend with your choice of herbs and enjoy.

Nomi’s Infused Body Scrub

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup leftover coffee grounds
  • ⅓ cup fractionated coconut oil, infused
  • 2 tablespoon unscented body soap
  • 15-25 drops of essential oil, to your preference

Instructions:

  1. Mix infused coconut oil with soap.
  2. Mix in the coffee grounds.
  3. Add in the essential oils and blend the mix again.

Nomi’s Infused Whole Body Oil

Nomi suggests body polishing as a year-round daily ritual to keep your skin feeling healthy and soft. First, soak your skin to soften it. Then, exfoliate it using the Infused Body Scrub. Lastly, lock in hydration with a 100% oil-based product afterwards. In the summertime, Nomi also suggests eliminating dead skin and excess body hair to avoid sweating and body odor. This will also prevent ingrown hairs and bumps on the skin.

Through the experience of making your own body polish products, Nomi encourages learning about which oils and butters are most compatible with your skin type. The ingredients and routines she recommends are based on her personal experience with the FX, her own self-care, and her client’s feedback.

Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons avocado oil
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • ½ teaspoon carrot seed oil
  • ½ teaspoon raspberry oil
  • 2 grams flower of your choice
  • 15-25 drops of essential oil of your choice

Instructions:

  1. Mix all the oils, except the essential oils, and place inside the FX using the Vessel or Concentrate and Infusion Sleeve, and infuse into THC, CBD, or CBG-rich plant material.
  2. After it cools down, mix in the essential oils of your choice.

Stay tuned for more of Nomi’s recommendations next month to continue nourishing and protecting your skin all year long.

Vegan Seared “Scallops” in Infused Brown Butter and Leche de Tigre

Submitted by Darlene Tran

Infusion Ingredients:

  • 1 gram of 1:1 CBD/THC Flower (110mg THC, 100mg CBD)
  • 8 ounce Vegan Butter (We like Miyoko’s)

Yields 4 Tbsp infused vegan butter (approx 6-7mg THC/Tablespoon)

Tiger’s Milk Ingredients:

  • 2 limes, juiced
  • 2-4 thin slices of ginger
  • 2 garlic cloves, smashed
  • 2-3 cilantro stems with leaves
  • 1 tablespoon aji amarillo paste

“Scallop” Ingredients:

  • ½ cup warm water
  • 2 teaspoons miso paste
  • ½ -1 teaspoon kelp powder
  • 1 teaspoon avocado oil
  • 2 king oyster mushrooms, cut into 1 inch disks
  • 1-2 tablespoon oil, for searing

Instructions:

  1. Activate the cannabis in the FX using the A1 setting. Then, completely submerge the plant material in the vegan butter and allow it to infuse on the Infuse setting. Strain.
  2. Whisk miso paste and kelp powder in warm water.
  3. Slice king oyster mushrooms into 1-1.5 inch disks (to mimic size/shape of sea scallops) and add to marinade. Let them sit for at least 1 hour, and pat prior to cooking
  4. In a separate bowl, combine lime juice, ginger, garlic, cilantro, avocado oil and aji amarillo paste. Marinate for at least 30 minutes and strain. Set aside.
  5. Heat a stainless steel pan on medium to medium-high heat and coat with oil. Once the pan is hot, lay the “scallops” down. Cook 3-4 minutes on each side, or until both sides are seared and golden brown.
  6. In a separate small pan, heat your vegan butter on low to medium-low heat and slowly bring to a bubble. Keep a close eye on it and once the butter becomes a caramel color, remove from the stove.
  7. To serve, place “scallops” in a deep plate, pour brown butter and aji amarillo tiger’s milk on top. Garnish with edible flowers and cilantro. Enjoy!

Infused Cake Doughnuts

Infused Doughnuts

The Dutch were the first to invent the doughnut: settlers who landed in New York quite enjoyed the sweet dough tossed and fried in pig’s fat. Over time, doughnuts developed their notorious center-less shape after complaints of raw centers required the recipe to adapt a bit.

Today, doughnuts are an American staple found practically everywhere throughout the country.

Doughnuts are traditionally fried, so if you want the flavor of the doughnut to come from within, rather than from the glaze on top of it, you may want to opt for making cake doughnuts. Cake doughnuts are also a great option for those looking to avoid fried foods or for those wanting to decorate some doughnuts with relatively easy clean-up time.

How to Get Started

The most important thing to keep in mind when making cake doughnuts are your decorative elements! We dip our infused doughnuts in chocolate, and to make things easier, we use melts that turn to liquid quickly in the microwave or FX. Keep some white chocolate and some dark chocolate on hand. You can also change the color of your white chocolate by using a gel-based food coloring.

To make a drizzled chocolate effect, dip your spoon in chocolate and quickly swing it back and forth over the desired space. The gravity helps the chocolate thin out and propel over the surface area.

It’s fun to keep chocolate letters on hand (they keep best in the freezer,) for writing out names, birthday wishes, etc. Also, it doesn’t hurt to keep a variety of themed, mixed, and separately colored sprinkles on hand for monochrome or custom looks.

Another element to take your cannabis-infused cake doughnuts to the next level is shine: everything from edible glitter to gold flakes and luster dust, a metallic finish gives doughnuts an ultra-polished look.

Lastly, when presenting your infused cake doughnuts, consider a “doughnut wall” structure for display. This popular set-up is found at weddings, trade shows, graduation parties, and gatherings of all types. Otherwise, pieces of parchment paper and a chic serving tray will do the trick!

  5. Allow your doughnuts to fully cool, then begin decorating. Cool and enjoy!

How to Prep Your Garden

Welcome to Preparing Your Garden with Emily Gogol, PhD, Head Gardener at Grow It From Home. Emily has years of experience growing all sorts of plants in urban gardens and is an expert on growing hemp and cannabis at home.

With a home grow, you’re also able to cut the cost of homemade edibles, topicals, tinctures, capsules, and other finished products significantly. The Ardent Nova and FX maximize the potential of your yield and keep you fully stocked in between harvests. Grab your own Ardent device to decarb, infuse, and bake in any space with an outlet.

Getting your garden ready for growing cannabis is just like getting it ready to grow tomatoes. Let’s walk through the steps together!

Where would you like to grow your plants?

Will you be growing in the ground or in a container? Whatever you decide, be sure the plants will get full sun. If you would plant a tomato there, you can plant your cannabis there. Cannabis does really well in containers, and we recommend a 3-5 gallon pot or larger. These can be plastic, terra cotta, or fabric. We have a detailed guide available on growing in containers on our website.

You can easily grow a healthy plant in a container.

How much room do I need?

If you are growing in the ground, and will let the plants grow to their full size, please give them about 4 feet of space to grow. You can always cut them back in July to keep them smaller, but a good rule of thumb is to allow your plant 4 feet of space. If growing in a container, the plants will likely be smaller, more in the 3-4 feet height and width range.

What does it mean to prep your soil?

In my experience it is best to prepare your soil and let the plants do their thing throughout the season. No additional amendments, teas, side-dressings, etc. When growing in the ground, prepare your bed as you would for tomatoes and in a container, use a high quality potting soil.

To Trellis or Not to Trellis?

If you are growing our high CBD hemp plants there is no need to trellis or stake your plants. Our plants are vigorous and sturdy even when heavy with flowers. However, if you are growing in a container on a windy patio you might want to add a tomato cage to your container to help support your plants. Note that many varieties of cannabis, like the THC producing ones you might find at a dispensary, have traditionally been grown indoors and can be quite wimpy (to put it mildly) outdoors. When in doubt, put a tomato cage around your plant.

You can choose to trellis your plant using a common tomato cage, but it is not necessary unless you are growing in a high-wind area like a patio.

To Prune or Not to Prune?

Again, there is a lot of misinformation online about both trellising your plants and pruning them. You do not need to do any fancy pruning or trellising with cannabis. By simply preparing the soil, and starting with healthy vigorous plants, you will be rewarded with up to 1-2 pounds of dried finished flower per plant. Fancy pruning techniques are for indoor growing where they are trying to maximize what they can do indoors – just think of how hard it would be to grow a tomato in a closet! It is the same for cannabis. If you are growing it outdoors, no need for any fancy pruning or trellis.

However, you can use pruning to limit the final size of your plant. If you want to keep your plant smaller, give it an aggressive pruning in July. July is a safe month for pruning because your plant hasn’t set any flowers yet and will have plenty of time to “grow into” the haircut you gave it and reach a healthy final size for flowering.
