What is CBGA (Cannabigerolic Acid) & its Effects & Benefits?

There over 100 known cannabinoids, the two most well known being THC and CBD, of course. The cannabis plant has a lot more to offer, though, and research is just starting to explore the effects of other cannabinoids and phytocannabinoids on the human body. In fact, it’s been demonstrated that cannabinoids work better in conjunction with one another, producing a synergistic experience called the entourage effect.

In the past, CBGA has been viewed as a minor player in the cannabis plant due to the fact that it rarely appears in significant amounts (usually, if present at all, it is in quantities of less than 1%). There is great excitement, however, as expert growers are beginning to breed strains with high levels of this unique cannabinoid.  We’ve been increasingly receiving questions about CBGA and decarboxylating CBGA to create CBG.

We are happy to announce that FX, Mini, and Nova activate CBG in addition to THC and CBD! Keep scrolling to see more information below on this unique cannabinoid along with testing results showing decarb of CBGA to CBG in Ardent technology.

What is CBGA?

CBGA – cannabigerolic acid – is produced to maintain the cannabis plant’s good health, triggering the necrosis and death of unhealthy leaves on the plant.  CBGA is a precursor to tetrahydrocannabinolic acid (THCA,) cannabidiolic acid (CBDA,) cannabichromenic acid (CBCA), as well as cannabigerol (CBG). Due to being a recessive trait, CBGa is found in larger quantities in hemp strains.

CBG was discovered over 50 years ago in Israel, and 30 years later the precursor, CBGa, was discovered by Japanese scientists.

Benefits of CBGA

CBGA is exciting due to its status as a natural inhibitor and it’s potential to expedite early cell death. The promising research includes that related to CBG’s impact on colon cancer cells and prevention in the lab of further cancer cell growth. CBGA also has many antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and pain support properties. CBGA also works with the endocannabinoid system to positively impact mood and appetite.

Cardiovascular Disease

In studies like this one, CBGA was found in vitro to inhibit an enzyme contributing to oxidative stress, which is a factor in cardiovascular disease and other heart health issues.

IBD (Inflammatory Bowel Disease)

A 2013 study showed that mice, when given colitis, experienced positive effects with the introduction of CBG. CBG was shown to reduce the mice’s symptoms, eliminate the production of many new oxidizing agents in their small intestines, and control the production of nitric oxide. Researchers hope to soon see clinical trials in humans for the treatment of IBD.

Metabolism Regulation

Metabolic disorders such as diabetes, high cholesterol, and high levels of triglycerides may also be impacted by CBGA. Using computer simulations, researches have theorized that this special cannabinoid could potentially activate receptors responsible for the stimulation of lipid metabolism and then control the accumulation of these lipids.

Colorectal Cancer

CBG is revealing itself to have interesting potential as a cancer treatment. In this study, CBG was shown to block receptors that caused cancer cell growth in mice, thereby slowing the rodents’ colon cancer progression. In that research, CBG inhibited the mice tumors and chemically-induced colon carcinogenesis, and, in doing so demonstrated potential as a therapy for colorectal cancer.

When the researchers looked at cytotoxic effects of CBG extracted from cannabis, they found that not only did CBG kill the mice colon cancer cells, but it also hastened early cancer cell deaths and arrested the cancer cell cycles in the mice. While more research is definitely needed, the researchers were encouraged that the CBG appeared to effectively target the mice colon cancer cells and prevent the growth and proliferation of their polyps.

Huntington’s Disease

Huntington’s Disease, a progressive brain disorder that causes loss in cognition, movement and emotional thinking, is one of many neurodegenerative diseases researchers are eyeing for CBG treatment potential. In a recent 2015 study, CBG was shown to protect neurons in mice with Huntington’s disease.  CBG, used alone or in combination with other phytocannabinoids or therapies, is an exciting avenue of study for the mitigation of nerve cell degeneration in the brain.

Effects of CBGA Decarb

CBGA and CBG can no longer be ignored. Currently, CBGA and CBG deserve further investigation in both human and animal studies. Both CBGA and CBG are non-psychoactive cannabinoids with lots of promise and now— it’s even more exciting to know CBG can be activated at home!

In our research, we have seen many publications and articles suggest that CBGA primarily turns to THCA or CBDA. Although this is possible, it’s most often the result of the pharmaceutical industry’s synthesization and manipulation of CBGa into other cannabinoids. In fact, CBGA can be reliably converted to the CBG given the right decarb conditions.

We took a CBGA strain and decarboxylated it for one cycle in the Nova –check out the results below. You can see this starting flower had over 12% potential CBG* and, after decarbing, there was full activation of the cannabinoids, with the decarbed flower containing over 12% CBG (120 mg CBG per gram). Very exciting!

We also took the opportunity to decarboxylate CBG in the new FX all-in-one portable cannabis kitchen. To decarboxylate CBGA in the FX, use the A1 setting. We used starting flower from the same CBGA harvest above. After decarbing on A1 in the FX, you can see in the test below a full decarboxylation from CBGAto CBG, with over 13% CBG in the activated flower after decarboxylation – over 130 mg per gram!

You’ll notice that this is a slight bit more than the result we saw above in Nova, which showed over 120 mg CBG per gram after decarboxylation. Important note: It’s not that the FX did a better job than the Nova — both gave a full activation of over 98%. There are, however, natural variations in the plant that can lead to a slightly more or less potency even on different parts of the same bud.

Stay tuned for a blog on the topic coming soon. But a good rule of thumb is to expect slight variations that they are typically only around 1%; or approx 10 mg per gram.

How to Make Cannabis-Infused Cacao Butter (Test Results Inside)

Cacao butter is a delicious and efficient infusion medium for cannabis and hemp! Derived from cacao beans, cacao butter contains plenty of natural, plant-based fat, and is a safe alternative for vegans.

Before you google it, yes, cacao butter and cocoa butter are nearly the same thing! They’re both relatively shelf-stable and can be melted down, but are solid at room temperature. Cocoa butter and cacao butter are suitable for topical applications, too.

We put the Ardent FX to the test for decarb, then cacao butter infusion. Find our shockingly incredible test results below.

And if you’re looking for a ready-made solution, check out Ardent’s Done-For-You Cannabutter with 600mg THC & 600mg CBD per jar.

Cannabis-Infused Cacao Butter Test Results

We began with THC-rich cannabis decarboxylated inside the Ardent FX on the A1 setting. We tested our decarboxylated material at MCR Labs, and found that after the activation cycle, our one-gram of cannabis tested at 16.26% max THC. So, let’s move the decimal point over one place to the right to determine how many mgs are in our gram of cannabis. Our one-gram nug yielded about 162 mgs of activated THC.

We then placed the decarboxylated herb inside an ounce of cacao butter and allowed it to infuse on the FX’s infuse setting. We also brought the infused cacao butter to MCR Labs to see how many mgs made it inside our infusion! It tested for 157.91 mgs of THC.

A huge quantity of our initial 162 activated mgs have ended up in our infused cacao butter. We can figure out the infusion rate of cacao butter by dividing the 157.9 mgs found in our cacao butter infusion by the 162 mgs that were placed inside it before infusion. Then, move the decimal point over two places to the right.

According to our lab test, cacao butter has an infusion rate of ~97.46%. That’s a great infusion rate!

Cacao lover, William Zitser, of CBD chocolate brand Flor de María, shows us one of his favorite applications of cannabis-infused cacao butter made inside the Ardent FX: Maple Cannadrizzle.

William mixes together a 1:1 ratio of cannabis-infused cacao butter and maple syrup, to use as a spread on ice cream, breakfast foods, and chicken tenders.

The Official Ardent Guide to Mess-Free Edibles & Topicals

https://vimeo.com/488332639

How do I make edibles mess-free and easy?

You’ve come to the right place for learning how to make mess-free edibles. We get plenty of questions from curious cannabis consumers asking how they can optimize their edible, topical, and tincture making experience without the mess. After all, when it’s time to wind down after a long day, who has the time to pull out all the necessary kitchen equipment, get it dirty and then clean it just to make a batch of edibles or topicals?

As promised, find our detailed guide to cannabis kitchen DIY without sacrificing your free time on cleanup below.

The instant edible is an easy way to make edibles!

The Instant Edible

One of the most mess-free and convenient ways to make edibles is by sprinkling decarbed bud directly over your food before consuming. Instant edibles save time and keep the mess to a minimum – so try it right on your takeout or bake it right into your home cooked meals. Adding a little oil to boost absorption is a good idea, and one of the biggest advantages of instant edibles is being able to skip that infusion step. It’s a lot faster to add decarbed bud and oil to a dish than it is to first infuse into that oil and then use the infused oil in a recipe.

Want an extremely easy (and mess-free) edibles througout the day? Visit our Day to Night Instant Edibles Blog. and see howe we used different cannabinoid blends througout the day to elevate all of our meals. Yum!

The Concentrate and Infusion Sleeve

Whether you have an Ardent Mini or an Ardent FX or original Ardent Nova, there’s a Concentrate and Infusion Sleeve that can minimize cleanup from your decarboxylations and infusions. The Concentrate and Infusion Sleeves fits inside the Mini or Nova’s inner canister to prevent getting the machine sticky during concentrate decarb or when you’re infusing into oil, butter, ghee and other bases.

The FX Sleeve fits perfectly inside the FX’s inner canister and is used the same way; plus, it has holes on both ends that operate as handles for easy removal from the unit. The sleeves are FDA-approved, food-grade, BPA-free silicone that is also perfect for baking. Since the sleeve has some bend, you can pour out infused oils easily without any spills.

Do you need the sleeve to operate your unit? No. Is it useful? Absolutely.

The Lifter (for FX or Nova)

Compatible exclusively with the Ardent FX, the Lifter is an accessory designed to keep your butterfingers from fumbling the cake, infusion, or decarbed bud that you’re trying to remove from your unit.

Effortlessly lift it out of the FX or Nova without the fear of spilling. Get the Beta FX Lifter or Nova Lifter bundles for a limited time! Each comes with membership to Ardent’s Beta Owners Group, where you get first access and exclusive discounts all year long.

The Infusion Press

Compatible exclusively with the Ardent FX, the Infusion Press is an easy solution to straining out raffinate from oil infusions. After the infusion cycle is complete simply replace the FX lid with the Infusion Press, and push the lever down to separate the plant material from the usable infusion.

Then, easily pour your infusion out into the container of your choice out of the Press’ spout. No need for coffee filters, tea bags, and cheesecloths. Straining is easier than ever before!

Washing the FX in the Dishwasher

Though the Ardent Nova should be cleaned by removing the inner canister and being wiped down by hand, the Ardent FX has a removable power base, and can actually be cleaned in the dishwasher. Check out our video on the differences between the Nova and FX to see how they’re taken apart for cleaning.

A Family Reunion To Remember Featuring Ardent’s Cannabutter with a Twist

At Ardent, we believe sharing the joy of cannabis-infused creations with loved ones is one of the best parts of the cannabis journey. For over 25 years now, I’ve been using edibles, topicals and suppositories to treat an ovarian cyst I got after my son was born, and over the last eight years that we have been educating and sharing Ardent technology with the world, it’s been amazing to see how impactful the power to know, understand and easily create products can be not only on the individual but their entire family and community. Taking the reins of our lives, including our health and our happiness, is something we all deserve and I am so happy to be here sharing with you.

In the spirit of sharing the power of the plant far and wide, when it was time for our family reunion this year, I made sure to come equipped with a special treat to share the love, whether my family needed relaxation or to ease their sore bodies after a long day, I knew I had exactly what was needed. I decided to bring our new Ardent Done-For-You Butter that comes complete with 12.5mg of THC and 12.5mg of CBD per teaspoon. I could have taken it as is, but if you remember, I love to customize and for me having CBG in the mix as well is always a good move. So I decarbed a bit of our super potent CBGa kief and infused it into the cannabutter so the jar would have 600mg of non-psychoactive CBG in addition to THC and CBD. You can check out that tutorial and video here if you’re interested.

With my custom cannabutter in hand, I was ready to fly off to good food, laughter, and the therapeutic benefits of this unique cannabinoid blend.

I didn’t have to wait long to whip out my goodies. The first day after touchdown and some kickoff activities that involved way too much walking in the sun, we went to the seafood buffet for dinner. The atmosphere was filled with anticipation and excitement as cousins, aunts, uncles, and the elders gathered around the table and the big piled plates started to appear.

And it was a perfect pairing because just as the meal began, the Done For You Cannabutter with CBG made its debut. My cousins immediately spread it on warm rolls, savoring the delightful combination of flavors. The butter provided a subtle “pick me up” that enhanced the dining experience, adding a touch of wellness to our time together.

You know that one aunt who’s the troublemaker in the best kind of way? Well, that’s my Aunt Gloria from the time I can remember and I couldn’t love her any more than I do! And with her is where I had the most joyous moments during the trip. She’s recovering from a broken ankle and kneecap, diligently attending physical therapy sessions to regain her mobility. You can imagine how challenging that has been, just so many moments of discomfort and pain.

Being able to provide her with comfort after a long day of activities at the reunion, just through a little swipe of cannabutter, and seeing her excitement at discovering a natural and delicious therapy that not only provided a sense of relaxation but also offered pain support was a reminder of how powerful this plant is, and honestly how we can sometimes take that power for granted, especially those of us who have easy access.

Wellness and togetherness were the main stars of this show, and I hope that wherever you are, you embrace the power to harness and create with this amazing plant. Ardent technology and products help you get there with laboratory-grade devices that make you an instant expert and innovative cannabinoid blends so you can create custom therapies perfect for you and the ones you love.

Guide to CBG: Focused and Happy

Welcome back to the Ardent Guide to Cannabinoids series, where we unravel the fascinating world of cannabis compounds that have captured the attention of researchers and enthusiasts alike. We’ve explored the differences between Delta 9 and Delta 9 THC, delved into the soothing effects of CBN, and now, we’re excited to shed light on the promising potential of CBG – a cannabinoid that’s making waves in the world of health and wellness.

Unmasking the Mystery of CBG:

Cannabigerol, or CBG, is a lesser-known cannabinoid found in the cannabis plant, but its significance is anything but minor. Often referred to as the “mother of all cannabinoids,” CBG serves as the precursor to other well-known compounds like THC, CBD, and CBN. This fundamental role in the cannabis plant’s chemical makeup is just the beginning of CBG’s intriguing journey.

The Science Behind CBG:

Research into CBG is still in its early stages, but initial findings are captivating scientists and sparking interest in its potential therapeutic applications. CBG interacts with the body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS), much like other cannabinoids. However, its distinct interaction with ECS receptors – particularly CB1 and CB2 receptors – sets it apart, giving rise to unique effects and potential benefits. CBG has been shown to help with mood support and stabilization and improved energy and focus, as well as digestive benefits and promise in the area of colon health and preventative maintenance. Because it takes a different pathway through the endocannabinoid system than CBD or THC, CBG is a great adjunct to your regular cannabinoid therapies and can add a new beneficial twist to your cannabis routine.

Exploring CBG’s Potential Benefits:

While more research is needed to fully understand CBG’s therapeutic potential, early studies and anecdotal evidence suggest a range of possible benefits. CBG has been linked to potential anti-inflammatory properties, making it a candidate for support in managing conditions like arthritis and inflammatory bowel disease. Moreover, CBG may contribute to neuroprotective effects, which could have implications for neurodegenerative disorders.

A Holistic Approach to Wellness:

Much like CBD and other cannabinoids, CBG doesn’t induce the intoxicating effects associated with Delta 9 THC. This characteristic makes CBG an appealing option for those seeking the potential benefits of cannabis without the “high.” As the wellness landscape continues to evolve, CBG offers a holistic approach to achieving balance and vitality.

Integrating CBG into Your Routine:

As CBG gains recognition, innovative products are emerging to showcase its potential. From tinctures and capsules to infused edibles, CBG offers a new realm of possibilities for enhancing well-being. With Ardent’s commitment to education and empowerment, you can confidently explore CBG’s benefits and discover products that align with your unique wellness journey. Check out our high-potency CBGa flower, super potent CBGa kief or Ardent’s Done-For-You CBG Focus Tincture or Focus Gummies.

Conclusion:

The Ardent Guide to Cannabinoids continues to unveil the intricate tapestry of compounds that contribute to the cannabis plant’s remarkable versatility. CBG, with its role as a precursor to other cannabinoids and its potential therapeutic effects, represents a promising avenue for health and wellness enthusiasts. As we venture deeper into the world of cannabinoids, remember that Ardent is here to guide you on your journey, providing insights and products that empower you to embrace the benefits of CBG and enhance your well-being.

How to Make Edibles Taste Better:  6 Practical Tips

A lot of people have a problem with edibles.  Even if they are properly dosed effective edibles.  That problem is the acrid green weedy flavor that accompanies many edibles.  This post aims to eliminate that problem and show you how to make edibles taste better.  Because a cannabis edible is not going to do you any good if its flavor is so yucky you don’t want to eat it!

If you’ve been using edibles for any length of time, you’ve no doubt experienced the chocolate-flavored weed that regularly passed for edibles at the dawn of legalization and sadly, sometimes still does. While there are a few rare individuals who enjoy the strong taste of cannabis in their food, most people don’t.  So you are not alone.

You might be wondering how some edible companies are able to completely eliminate the cannabis flavor entirely while you have trouble with this step at home.

They do so by using specially made isolates that remove all the natural terpenes and cannabinoids in the plant, except for THC or CBD.  You might get a buzz from the former, and some medicinal effects from both, but you will lose the substantial health benefits of natural whole-plant medicine.

On the other hand, terpenes and the full spectrum of cannabinoids are present when cooking with cannabis flowers and natural concentrates like kief, hash, and rosin.  This is a good thing because all these compounds work synergistically to provide a broad spectrum of health benefits.

When it comes to how to make edibles taste better while retaining whole plant medicine benefits, implement the tips below.  And if you’re looking for ready-made, full spectrum edibles, check out Ardent’s THC & CBD Cannabutter, or our amazing new Multi-Cannabinoid Beverage Booster that mixes seamlessly into any drink!.

#1 Stronger is better

We’re not talking about stronger individual doses here, but rather stronger cannabis infusions that you use to make edibles recipes.

The stronger you can make your cannabis butter, oil, or other infusions, the less of them you will need to use in your edibles recipe to achieve an optimal dose.  Less infusion in the recipe means less weedy flavor.

For example, if you were to make your infused butter or oil using double the amount of cannabis suggested, or from cannabis with double the THC percentage (say 20% THC instead of 10%), you would only need to use half as much infusion in your recipe to get the same dose.  Make sense?    Make up the difference in the recipe with unmedicated butter or oil.

By using the FX, Mini or Nova to fully activate your cannabis, you can achieve strongly dosed infusions that maximize its potency.

Check out our post on infusion boosting to learn how to make your flower infusions more potent.

#2 Fine grinds do not equal finer flavor

There is absolutely no practical need nor benefit to finely grinding your plant material before making an infusion.  You certainly do not need to bring a coffee grinder or food processor into the process (unless you are making canna-flour).

We give this advice despite a whole lot internet “experts” telling you the contrary, as well as a competing commercially available infuser that has fine grinding built into the process.  They’ve all got it wrong.

What you are trying to extract when you make cannabis butter oil oil is ON the plant not IN it.  You are infusing the resinous trichomes on the surface of the buds.  That’s where the magic is.  Finely grinding your cannabis deposits more plant material into your finished infusions, and that means more herbal flavor, but it does not mean more potency.

Before infusing, break up the nugs into popcorn size nugs, but no need to grind it as finely as you would if you getting ready for smoking or vaping. Do not grind it to a fine powder.  There is no need to use a food processor or coffee grinder. Less finely ground bud means less chlorophyll in your final product.

#3 Cannabis concentrates equal LESS green flavor

Another option is to skip a whole plant infusion and cook with cannabis concentrates like kief, hash, rosin, hash oils, or FECO instead.  These will give your edibles a concentrated dose of THC or CBD along with other cannabinoids and some terpenes, without imparting a lot of unwanted herbal flavor.  That’s because most of the plant material and green chlorophyll have been removed.

Most concentrates will still need to be decarbed, which you can easily do in the FX or the Mini.  Once decarbed you can dissolve concentrates into butter or oil, no need for a long infusion.   Depending on what you are making, you may be able to simply stir decarbed concentrates directly into your recipes.

#4 Cooking helps mellow cannabis flavor

Cannabis infusions like butter and oil, tend to lose some of their green flavor when they are cooked into recipes.  So, while they can be used in dishes that don’t require heating, opt for cooking when you have a choice.

For instance, if we were going to medicate a cupcake recipe, from a flavor perspective we would be better off adding the cannabis butter to the cake, which is baked, than to the buttercream frosting, which is not.

#5 Be bold with flavor profiles

If you don’t want your edibles to taste like weed, use a heavy hand with other flavors. For example, it is far easier to hide the flavor of cannabis in an Oatmeal Spice Cookie than in a Vanilla Sugar Cookie.

Seek out recipes, be they sweet or savory, that combine lots of other flavors, ingredients, herbs, and spices.  Cannabis cooking can be a great opportunity to explore lots of flavorful new cuisines and flavor profiles.  Have fun and you’ll come up with some great tasting creative edibles.

#6 Think outside the box

Along the same theme of experimenting with bold flavors, think outside the box of what we typically think of as edibles.  Sure, cookies, brownies, and gummies are popular marijuana edibles, but from a flavor point of view, savory foods often naturally meld better with the taste of cannabis.  And if they have enough other  herbs and spices going on, savory recipes often do a better job of masking the flavor we are trying to avoid as well.

Conclusion

Edibles definitely do not need to taste overwhelmingly green in order to be effective.  The next time you cook with cannabis, put as many of these tips into practice as is practical for the recipe you are making and see if you don’t improve the quality of your cannabis cooking creations.

Make sure you are starting with the most potent products possible by using Ardent technology for precision activation. After decarb you can infuse and bake right in your decarboxylator, too! Cannabis and hemp products from A-Z in a single machine? Priceless.

As crafty folks who love easy DIY, naturally many were curious about what to do with your leftover material once it’s been vaped. This material is called ABV, short for “already been vaped.”

So, what can you do with your leftover AVB? Keep reading to find out how to transform your AVB into a potent cannaoil or cannabutter. And if you’re looking for something already infused and ready to go, check out Ardent’s new Done-For-You Cannabutter that comes complete with 600mg THC and 600mg CBD per jar.

What is Dry Herb Vaping?

Dry herb vaping is a super common consumption method that’s been even more popularized over the past few years as more vaporizers hit the market. The cannabis or hemp material is placed inside a chamber where it’s heated to temperatures high enough to vaporize the material but not hot enough to light it on fire. The vapor is then pulled through a mouthpiece, and inhaled, avoiding combustion entirely. The material leftover in the chamber, the “already been vaped” ABV, is actually still valuable for making edible and topical solutions inside the Ardent FX, Mini or Nova.

How Much THC is Left In ABV?

The amount of THC and other cannabinoids that is left in ABV depends on a few factors, mostly importantly how many hits you take of the vaporizer before taking out the ABV. Our lab partner, MCR Labs, tested the potency of ABV over the course of 40 pulls in a dry herb vaporizer, with fascinating results. As more pulls were taken from the vaporizer, the more the available potential THC percentage declined. You can see in the graph below that after about 15 draws from the vaporizer, there was about 65% of the initial THC potential remaining, and after 30 draws there was about 20% potential THC still remaining.

Something interesting and important to note is that CBN is also being created here. You can see by 30 draws, there’s about 0.5% of CBN present, or about 5 mg per gram of ABV.

At around 20% of the starting available THC left after vaping, that would be about 40 grams of potential THC per gram if you were vaping cannabis that had 23% THCa to start. Even if your flower was a bit lower like 15% THCa, you could still potentially have over 25mg of potential THC per gram of ABV per gram that could be used for edibles. topicals or some beauty or wellness therapies. We’ll talk about the best way to do that next!

Does ABV Need to be Decarbed?

First, why do we keep saying “potential THC?” It’s because, as you probably know, THC in the flower actually exists in an acid form of THCa. (If this information is new to you, please check out our decarboxylation guide to get deeper into decarb and why it is critical to understanding cannabis and how it works). When the cannabis is vaporized, some of the THCa is converted to THC through the heat of the vaporizer, but much if it is not. Also, as you saw above, the heat of the vaporizer also turns some of the THC to CBN.

Looking at the results below, you can see in the experiment, after 30 pulls in the vaporizer, about 60% of the remaining THCa had been converted to THC. So even after a full round of vaping, ABV is not fully decarboxylated. Because it is already decarboxylated to 60%, you can place it in the Ardent FX or Ardent Mini for half a decarb cycle in order to activate the remainder before infusing into your butter or oil.

Creating products with ABV can lead to potent edibles if you infuse the ABV into a small amount of butter or oil. If you don’t have a lot of ABV or want to make edibles that are more potent than you can achieve using leftovers, we recommend a process called infusion boosting, which we’ll explain further below.

What is Infusion Boosting?

Infusion Boosting is a term we coined here at Ardent to describe the process of re-infusing a previously infused oil, butter, milk, cream, or alcohol. The process of infusion boosting adds additional potency, or allows you to give your infusion medium a new ratio of cannabinoids.

In the case of ABV, since it has already been vaped and a lot of the available cannabonoids have already been removed, depending on how spent or under-activated the material is, results may vary. In order to make your infusion stronger, you can try the Infusion Boosting method. You can either infuse your butter, oil, milk, cream, or alcohol with the ABV and test it out (adjusting the potency afterwards) or decarb some fresh plant material to infuse at the same time as your ABV to make a more potent infusion from the start.

How to Make ABV Cannaoil:

  1. Decarb any fresh plant material you want to include in your infusion (aside from the ABV, which you can decarb for half a cycle to fully decarboxylate) This step can be skipped if you plan to just use ABV in your infusion.
  2. Once the decarb cycle is complete, add any decarbed flower and the ABV to the Sleeve or Vessel inside the device.
  3. Pour the oil of your choosing over the plant material, fully submerging it. Choose between olive oil, coconut oil, grapeseed oil, canola oil, sesame oil, and many other options with edible or topical uses. If using the Ardent Nova, run it for a cycle. If using the Ardent FX or Mini, choose the Infuse setting.
  4. Strain out the leftover material using the Ardent Frainer, Infusion Press, or a standard kitchen strainer or cheesecloth.
  5. Store your cannaoil in an airtight container, such as the Infusion Mold or Vessel.

How to Make ABV Cannabutter:

  1. Decarb any fresh plant material you want to include in your infusion (aside from the ABV, which you can decarb for half a cycle to fully decarboxylate).
  2. Once the decarb cycle is complete, add any decarbed flower you’re using and the ABV to the Sleeve or Vessel inside the device.
  3. Place the butter or ghee of your choosing over the plant material, fully submerging it. If using the Ardent Nova, run it for a cycle. If using the Ardent FX or Mini, choose the Infuse setting.
  4. Strain out the leftover material using the Ardent Frainer, Infusion Press, or a standard kitchen strainer or cheesecloth.
  5. Store your cannabutter or ghee in an airtight container, such as the Infusion Mold or Vessel, in the fridge.

The Ultimate Guide to Weed Decarb Machines: Everything You Need to Know

The Ultimate Guide to Cannabis Decarboxylation: Exploring the Benefits of Weed Decarb Machines

The process of activating, a.k.a. decarboxylating cannabis has become really popular in the cannabis community over the last few years, and especially as more people have started to understand the benefits of the plant. The process of decarboxylation is essential to unlock the full potential of all the different cannabinoids, and it’s critical for maximizing the benefits and the potency of any cannabis products that you’re making. In this comprehensive guide, we’ll delve into the intricacies of decarboxylation, explore traditional methods of decarboxylation and introduce revolutionary decarb machines. We’ll show you how these machines simplify the decarboxylation process and the key features to consider when you’re choosing a decarb machine as well as tips for achieving successful decarboxylation every single time.

Understanding Decarboxylation

Before we go into the specifics of decarboxylation, let’s lay the groundwork for exactly what it is. And it’s raw form, the THC and CBD in cannabis in an acid state. Decarboxylation is a chemical reaction that turns the acid state of the cannabinoid into the active state of the cannabinoid using heat. When cannabis is exposed to heat, it removes the carboxyl group and transforms the acid form of THCA and CBDA into the active and bioavailable THC and CBD.

Why is Decarboxylation Necessary for Cannabis Consumption?

Raw, undecarboxylated cannabis is primarily made up of the acid form of the cannabinoids, not the active forms that most people are looking to use for therapeutic purposes. To experience the psychoactive effects of THC, and the benefits of CBD, CBG, and other cannabinoids, decarboxylation is essential. Decarboxylated cannabinoids interact with the endocannabinoid system more efficiently and effectively.

Traditional Decarboxylation Methods

  • Oven Decarboxylation: Oven decarboxylation involves putting ground cannabis on a baking sheet and heating it at a controlled temperature for a specific duration. While the method is relatively straightforward, it requires careful monitoring and most often result in inconsistent heat distribution and either over, or under decarboxylation, wasting valuable product
  • Decarboxylation Using a Stovetop of Crockpot: Decarboxylation on a stovetop involves heating cannabis in a double boiler or in a slow cooker. This method is more consistent than the oven method, but never reaches optimal decarboxylation temperatures and will therefore always result in a less than optimal decarb.

Drawbacks and limitations of traditional methods: traditional decarb methods have many limitations, including inconsistent heat distribution, the inability to precisely control temperature, and they need to constantly babysit during the process leads to wildly inconsistent results. The smell that comes along with traditional decarb methods is also a huge barrier.

Introducing Weed Decarb Machines

Cannabis decarb machines revolutionize the decarboxylation process by offering a simple, efficient and controlled method for this incredibly important process. Weed decarb machine that was designed specifically for decarboxylation. They take the guesswork out of the decarboxylation process and give newbies and connoisseurs reliable results.

Cannabis decarb machines like the Ardent Mini and Ardent FX revolutionize the decarboxylation process by providing a simple, efficient, and controlled method for this critical step. These machines eliminate the need for constant monitoring and manual intervention, ensuring precise temperature cycles and even heat distribution.

What are Weed Decarb Machines?

Weed decarb machines are specialized devices to automate and streamline the decarboxylation process. Their benefits are precise temperature control and even heat distribution along with customized settings to allow decarboxylation of many different cannabinoids. Decarb machines have advanced features that simplify the decarb process and eliminate the requirement for your manual intervention.

How do Weed Decarb Machines Simplify the Decarboxylation Process?

Weed decarb machines simplify the decarboxylation process in a few different and very important ways:

  • Precise Temperature Control: With a weed decarb machine, you’ll get precise temperature cycles that will ensure consistent results and eliminate the risk of overheating, or under heating your cannabis.
  • Even Heat Distribution: Weed decarb machines feature innovative heating mechanisms that distribute heat evenly throughout the chamber. The best decarboxylation machines feature innovative heating mechanisms to distribute them evenly throughout the chamber to ensure uniform decarboxylation of all the cannabinoids in your material.

Benefits of Using Weed Decarb Machines

Using a weed decarb machine offers several advantages over traditional methods:

  • Consistency:. You want consistent results. We decarb machines provide that by eliminating variables like temperature, fluctuations and uneven heating distribution. With consistent lab-grade decarboxylation, you get predictable potency that allows you to control the dosing and achieve your desired effects.
  • Time Efficiency: Because you don’t have to worry about messing it up and don’t have to constantly check on it during the process, decarboxylating with a decarb machine save you time and hassle.
  • Odor Control: Weed decarb machines are specifically designed to prevent odor during the process, which is especially important for people concerned about privacy or living in shared spaces.
  • Precision and Control: Having precise control over the most important step in making your cannabis products feels really good. We de card machines provide a level of precision and accuracy in the process that just can’t be achieved with traditional methods.

How Weed Decarb Machines Work

Weed decarb machines work by using a combination of controlled heat, precision temperature sensors and advanced algorithms and timers to achieve full activation of cannabinoids in your flower kief or concentrate. Here’s an overview of the process for using a cannabis decarb machine:

  • Loading the Cannabis: First, break up your buds into small, popcorn, size nugs. There’s no need to grind the cannabis before you decarb in a decarb machine. Place your nugs into the decarb machine’s chamber and select the button for the type of cannabinoid you’re looking to activate.
  • Decarboxylation Process: Once the setting is selected and the button is pressed to start the cycle, the machine’s algorithm activates the heating core, raising the internal temperature and creating precision heating cycles based on feedback from the precision sensors The cannabis undergoes decarboxylation as the cannabinoids are converted into their active forms.
  • Completion and Cooling: After the activation cycle is complete and the device has cooled to a safe temperature, the machine alerts the user that the decarboxylation process is complete.

Ensuring Consistent and Efficient Decarboxylation Results

To achieve consistent and efficient decarboxylation results with weed decarb machines, consider the following factors:

  • Temperature and Time Settings:=Choose the right setting for the cannabinoids present in your material that you’re looking to activate. Material high in THC in CBN are activated in different settings than material high in CBD for example. The decarboxylation setting is determined by the cannabinoid’s, not the type of material that you’re activating. For example, THC, kief, flower and concentrate are all activated in the same setting. Weed decarboxylation machines like the Ardent FX have lab-grade heating cycles customized to maximize the activation of all of your favorite cannabinoids.
  • Cannabis Strain and Quality: Whatever strain or quality of cannabis you’re using, the decarb machine will activate whatever cannabinoids are inside to over 97% activation. So whether you’re using top shelf material or trim or even activating stems, a precision decarb machine will allow you to get the maximum available cannabinoid out of your material, saving you money and allowing you to make more with less.
  • Proper Grinding and Preparation: There is no need to grid the cannabis before decarboxylation in a precision cannabis decarb machine. Just break the weed into small buds before placing it into the chamber.
  • Loading and Arranging the Cannabis: With the best decarb machines, there’s no minimum amount to how much you can activate. Use just a tiny amount, or fill the entire chamber. Don’t overfill or stuff the chamber closed, however, make sure the material is sitting comfortably inside.
  • Monitoring and Adjusting the Decarboxylation Process:
  • With precision decarb machines there’s no need to monitor the process while it’s happening. Just press the button and come back when the light is green for fully activated cannabinoids and the most potent material possible.

Cleaning and Maintenance of Weed Decarb Machines

Proper cleaning and maintenance are crucial for the longevity and performance of your weed decarb machine. Follow these guidelines:

  • Proper Cleaning Procedures: After each use, allow the machine to cool completely before cleaning. Use a soft, damp cloth to wipe the interior and exterior surfaces. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials that may damage the machine. Some weed decarb machines are dishwasher safe.
  • Maintenance Tips for Long-Term Durability: Regularly inspect the machine for any signs of wear or damage. Clean the removable parts and accessories thoroughly. Refer to the instructions for specific maintenance recommendations.

Guide to CBN – A Unique Cannabinoid and Its Potential

Unlocking the Potential of Cannabinol (CBN): Exploring Nature’s Calming Ally

Hello, fellow cannabis enthusiasts and curious minds! Today, let’s dive into the captivating realm of cannabinoids as we unravel the intriguing story of a unique cannabis player CBN. Amid the intricate tapestry of cannabinoids that grace the cannabis plant, Cannabinol (CBN)  is a captivating protagonist. As the scientific community delves deeper into the world of cannabinoids, CBN’s unique attributes have led to significant attention and excitement.

Most renowned for its potential in promoting restful sleep, CBN holds the promise of a natural remedy for one of the most frustrating challenges that jeopardize our well-being and ability to perform our best and enjoy life to its fullest. Let’s dig deeper into the world of CBN, its scientific intricacies, and its potential to lend a soothing hand in our quest for holistic well-being by way of natural remedies.

At Ardent, we’re all about shedding light on the utility of these natural resources, and this time, it’s all about CBN. Just like we did with Delta-8 and Delta-9 THC, we’re here to guide you through the nuances and benefits of this fascinating cannabinoid as you consider adding it to your health and wellness routine.

The Distinctive Journey of CBN

Let’s look closer at CBN to uncover its unique character. To start, CBN is formed very differently than the cannabinoids we are usually discussing. Unlike its well-known cannabinoid cousins, CBN doesn’t develop on the cannabis flowers while they are growing. Instead, CBN is actually the degraded form of a very familiar cannabinoid: the famous THC. That’s right, you read correctly! CBN is formed when THC in the plant degrades.  The natural degradation of THC due to factors like oxidation or exposure to light and air breaks the THC molecule down to CBN.

Because it is created through degradation from THC, CBN does not have an acidic counterpart like CBGa, CBDa, THCa exist for CBD, CBD and THC . As THC in the plant transforms into CBN over time, it offers an alternative experience that sets it apart from other cannabinoids.

CBN’s Potential Benefits: A Glimpse into its Power

CBN holds captivating promise, as emerging research suggests it might play a significant role in sleep and relaxation, helping to induce both. CBN has significant anticonvulsant and sedative potential, and as the world of cannabinoid exploration expands, CBN takes its place as a powerful contributor to the holistic wellness experience.

How to Access CBN

Since CBN is a degraded form of THC, it exists in only tiny amounts in the plant because in order to eventually become CBN, the cannabinoid needs to change from its starting acidic form of THCa to THC and then to CBN. Naturally, this process occurs very slowly over many months to years and even then only for a small portion of the THCa present. Therefore, CBN products are usually made from extracting the small amounts of CBN from the plant and blending them into products like tinctures and gummies. Be sure that any CBN product you choose is made only with top quality organic flower and in a third-party tested, cGMP, FDA-registered, and certified facility like our Ardents’s CBN Sleep Gummies.

Decarboxylating to Get More CBN

Because CBN is created from degraded THC, you can speed up the process of creating CBN in your flower by decarbing it to convert the THCa in the plant into THC that can then oxidize into CBN. Ardent’s precision decarboxylators allow you to activate over 97% of the available THC in your flower, ensuring that you’ll have the maximum amount of active cannabinoids to use in your therapies. After you decarboxylate your flower, store it in an open container and expose it to direct sunlight to hasten the process of converting some of the THC to CBN.

Taking It Up a Notch – Smoking Decarbed Flower

Smoking or vaporizing already decarboxylated cannabis increased the CBN content in the smoke and vapor compared to smoking cannabis that has not been decarboxylated. Because the THCa has already been converted to THC in decarboxylated cannabis, when it is heated or hits the flame, more of that THC is converted into CBN. The cannabinoid does not first have to go through the THCa to THC conversion that happens (albeit inefficiently) when smoking and vaping. T

his is also why generally smoking has stronger effects than vaping. The higher temps of the combustion cause more degradation of the THC, creating a different blend of cannabinoids in the smoke than exist in the vapor. By decarbing the cannabis first before vaping or smoking, you’re kicking the CBN production up a notch. Be careful smoking decarboxylated cannabis, as you’ll likely want to lie down soon after.

CBN is an intriguing cannabinoid and is an excellent example of how various cannabinoids morph and interact within the dynamic environment of the cannabis plant, and how they can be used together to create customized therapies to work with each individuals endocannabinoid system (ECS) to resolve issues and bring harmony and homeostasis to the body and its various functions.

Synthetic vs. Natural Cannabinoids: A Closer Look at Delta-8 and Delta-9 THC

Hello cannabis enthusiasts, connoisseurs, and newbies alike! Today, we’re demystifying the world of THC and exploring the difference between Delta-8 and Delta-9 THC. As advocates for the highest quality and natural products, here at Ardent we believe it’s essential to shed light on the differences between these cannabinoids and the importance of choosing naturally occurring over synthetic forms!

What is THC?

Tetrahydrocannabinol, better known as THC, is one of the primary cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant. It’s responsible for the euphoric and psychoactive effects most often associated with marijuana use and has shown phenomenal potential in studies and clinical trials to support in a wide variety of situations. There are varieties of THC, two of which are Delta-8 Tetrahydrocannabinol and Delta-9 Tetrahydrocannabinol.

Delta-8 THC vs. Delta-9 THC: The Distinctions

Delta-8 THC and Delta-9 THC may sound similar, but they possess some notable differences. While both cannabinoids share similar chemical structures, they interact with the body’s endocannabinoid system in distinct ways, resulting in varying effects. Overall, Delta-8 is a bit less potent than Delta-9, though both have psychoactive effects.

Natural vs. Synthetic: A Critical Distinction

Here’s the most important difference between Delta-8 and Delta-9 THC: Delta-9 THC is available in large amounts in the plant naturally, but Delta-8 only occurs naturally in very small quantities. Because of this, nearly 100% of the Delta-8 on the market is synthetically created in the lab by chemically converting CBD into Delta-8.

Why Synthetic Delta-8 Raises Concerns

Natural is the way to go, and here come the reasons why we’re waving our “no” flags at synthetic cannabinoids. First and foremost, the process of converting CBD to Delta-8 THC involves chemical manipulation, and the final product does not need to undergo rigorous testing and quality control before it gets to you. This means a potential rollercoaster ride of uncertainty when it comes to what’s in the final product that you’re putting into your body. The world of Delta-8 is the wild west, and the lack of oversight raises concerns about product safety and consistency. It’s crucial for patients and consumers to inquire about the origin of cannabinoids in their products and demand safe and natural products.

And let’s not forget the essence of cannabis allure—its glorious entourage effect. Synthetic cannabinoids might not play well with others in this fabulous entourage, potentially dimming the overall experience.

The Importance of Choosing Natural Over Synthetic

As responsible cannabis users and advocates we understand the significance of transparency and purity in the products we consume. Always asking whether cannabinoids are natural or synthetic empowers us to make informed decisions about what we put into our bodies. We’re advocates of embracing the power of naturally occurring cannabinoids and believe that Mother Nature knows best when it comes to the art of cannabis creation. Authenticity and transparency are our ultimate goals, because let’s face it, nothing beats the real deal!

The magic of Ardent is that you can tailor your cannabutter to suit your preferences and experience a whole new realm of culinary delights. Watch the full video above, and see it broken down step-by-step below.

Step 1: Decarboxylate Your Kief

Using your trusty Ardent FX or Mini, start by decarboxylating your CBGa kief. Decarbing is a crucial step that activates the cannabinoids, making them bioavailable and ready to work their magic. Decarbing kief is the same process as flower, we placed our kief in its glass jar on the Lifter, decarbing on the A1 setting to convert the CBGa in the kief to CBG.

Step 2: Blend Your Infusion Mix

After the light turns green and the decarb cycle is complete, remove the activated kief from the FX. You’ll notice it looks the same but is darker in color and compressed a little due to having less moisture after the decarb process.

Now that the kief is decarbed, mix the decarbed kief and the Cannabutter together in the Vessel, Silicone Sleeve, or a glass jar that you can put back on the Lifter.

Step 3: Infuse to Perfection

Place the mix into the FX and press the button for the Infusion Setting to infuse the CBGa from the kief into the butter. The rich fats in the butter will easily bind with the activated CBG in the kief and pull it into the butter. Here we added two grams of kief in order to add 600 mg of kief to the butter, so the butter would have a total 600mg THC + 600mg CBD + 600mg CBG in the jar. Infusion boosting is an easy way to boost the potency, and you can do it wih CBD, THC or CBG, using this same process. You can infusion boost with kief, flower or concentrate. And with our range of accessories, the possibilities are endless, allowing you to enhance your morning routine and enjoy plant-infused midnight snacks.

Instant Edible Method: Infusing Cornbread Batter with Decarbed Ground Herb

Today, we’re taking a break from pancakes and diving into the world of infused cornbread. The process is as simple as can be. Begin by preheating your Ardent FX on A1. Next, prepare your favorite cornbread mix (any variety will do) and add a sprinkle of decarbed ground herb to infuse each mini loaf. We call this the instant edible method, because there is no oil infusion step needed, just a small amount of the decarbed bud, kief or concentrate added right to your food, in this case the batter. If you did want to use oil instead, you certainly can! Remember, you can experiment with decarbed THC, CBD, CBG, or any blend of flowers, kiefs, and concentrates to create personalized doses for your snacks and other creations.

Method 1: Perfectly Infused Cornbread Cakes with Silicone Sleeve or Vessel

To get a perfectly infused cornbread cake perfect for one or two, use the Silicone Sleeve or Vessel. Give each a spray of non-stick oil so your cakes will slide right out. Then add your instant edible batter into the Sleeve or Vessel and pop them into the FX on the bake setting for 25 minutes. At the end of the cycle, remove the Sleeve or Vessel from the FX, and there you have it—perfectly infused cornbread cake ready for your enjoyment! For an extra dose of elevation, try spreading some cannabutter on top of your infused cornbread.

Method 2: Individual Mini Infused Cornbread Loaves with Double Lifter and Nova Vessels

If you’re up for another variation, we’ve got you covered. Use the Double Lifter and two Nova Vessels to make individual mini infused cornbread loaves.. Follow the same process as making them in the FX Vessel, but this time, use the double lifter to hold the two small Vessels. Fill the Vessels with your cornbread batter, place them inside the FX, and prepare for thick and fluffy infused mini cornbread loaves.

Infused Espresso Wars – Miriam vs. Eve: Battle for the Best Cannabis Coffee in Barcelona!

Introduction:

At Ardent, we believe you have the right to health, wellness and joy using natural resources that pair perfectly with our bodies’ biology. This is especially true when we’re on the road spreading the message of this powerful plant and need an extra pick-me-up. And just because we are serious about making sure this plant and everyone who wants to use it has the ability to, that doesn’t mean that we don’t like to have fun and bring a little friendly competition into the mix! And you know there’s no one more serious about their craft than the coffee lovers (except, of course, us plant people!).

To that end, in the bustling streets of Barcelona, two coffee and weed enthusiasts, Miriam and Eve, faced off in an epic showdown to determine who makes the best-infused espresso. The scene was set for an intense competition and Miriam and Eve each brought their tried and true methods of making cannabis-infused coffee, aiming to delight the taste buds and energize their fellow enthusiasts. In this blog post, we invite you to join the battle and cast your vote for the queen of Ardent-infused coffee!

Long days and nights at the show and in the cafes demand high performance from everyone on the team. Starting the morning with a full or microdose of THC can really help get the day going. Or maybe you want to tap into the health benefits of CBD, CBG and other non psychoactive cannabinoids as part of your morning pick-me-up. (If you haven’t seen our magical, exclusive CBGA kief, check out this wonder cannabinoid and start folding it into your daily preventative routine!)

On this special adventure, Miriam and Eve went toe to toe comparing their tried and true methods of making coffee. A little friendly competition never hurt anyone, and these ladies were ready to show out for their espresso!!

The Contestants:

Miriam, a familiar face to many, is known for her expertise in infusing coffee (and so many other things lol) with cannabis. Eve, on the other hand, has been a valued member of the Ardent team for years, continuously exploring innovative ways to create cannabis-infused beverages. With their passion for both coffee and cannabis, they were more than prepared to showcase their unique approaches and techniques.

The Infused Espresso Process:

Before diving into the battle, it’s crucial to understand the process of creating infused espresso. Like any edible, it all starts with a proper decarboxylation, ensuring that the cannabinoids in the hemp or cannabis you are using are fully activated and ready to give you the desired effects. After decarboxylation, the next step is to infuse the cannabinoids into a dairy product with a high fat content like whole milk, or cream, or infusing into coconut/MCT oil for those opting to go the bulletproof coffee route. Ardent’s technology allows for decarb and infusion at the simple press of a button, on top of precise control over the dosage, making it easy to create customized cannabinoid therapies in the form of your favorite drinks or any other product you can dream of.

With Ardent, you can control the dose and there’s no minimum amount required so you can make just the amount you need when you need it! For this battle, we decarbed one gram of flower and infused that into 1oz of coconut oil, which has the highest infusion rate among the choices, since it has the highest in fat. After infusion, our coconut oil contained approx 150mg THC, based on our starting 1 gram of decarbed flower that was 20% THC. For more info on calculating dosing in decarb and infusion, check out our dosing guide.

And if you’re in a rush or need something ready to infuse, check out Ardent’s Done For You Cannabutter – 600mg THC + 600 mg CBD per jar means you can easily infuse your coffee or favorite snacks.

Miriam’s Traditional Approach:

Miriam relied on her years of experience, using a traditional method to craft her infused espresso. After brewing, she added a bit of sugar, some milk and the infused coconut oil, coaxing out the rich flavors and delightful aromas of the espresso. Her approach captured the essence of both coffee and cannabis, creating a harmonious blend that satisfied both the taste buds and the spirit.

Eve’s Innovative Twist:

Eve, always pushing the boundaries, brought her own unique spin to the competition. She opted to add her sweet before the brew and added cream and infused coconut oil to elevate the coffee experience. Her creativity shone through as she artfully balanced the flavors and effects, creating a memorable infusion that left coffee lovers craving more.
